It's not like MJP got a lot more viewers since it finished airing either

I watched MJP and loved it and people told me to watch Nadesico, but I didn't like that one very much beyond some of the jokes and the mechanical design. I was pretty disappointed.

Nope.

First half was mediocre at best, so relying on three episodes rule would be detrimental here, but second half was actually good.

Well I finally got around to finishing it after seeing this thread and I really like MJP,it had a unique enough setting, but also used a lot of mecha tropes and played em straight.
It felt like a homage to past mecha series as well as doing somethings of its own and I really liked that about it.
Patrick deserved better though
