I wish it had a BD release; it would look beautiful. Alas, it only ever got a DVD (and the only rips available online are of the NA release, which has a slightly different OP animation, and the official subs are pretty bad at times).

Gad Guard was pretty fun. I really loved all the characters and mechas, and the setting was great. Fantastic music too.
The last two episodes were pretty shit though. Hajiki's sudden character development was rushed and atrificial as fuck.

Aiko best girl. It's a pity there is not much art of her

>>13782264
I really liked Neo Ranga, though I kinda wish it stayed a slice of life show about three girls and their ancient god till the very end. I didn't enjoy the final episodes as much as the rest of the series.
>>
>>13784450
I think Tech Romancer/Kikaioh is rated about where it belongs. Being part of those not-so-great capcom 3d fighting games like Star Gladiators, Rival Schools, and Street Fighter EX, Kikaioh is appreciated by collectors of rare things, but it's not really that good a fighting game to deserve higher recognition. Neat premise, bad execution.

This so much

Brigadoon is absolutely fantastic. Characters are loveable, the setting is great and music is so beautiful and sometimes eerie and different than in other anime. The sudden mood changes may be off putting for some and there are some quite controversial scenes, but it's still worth a watch. Definitely the most underrated Sunrise show.

Pasuka no Hi is still one of my most favourite tracks in anime ever. It's just so beautiful and haunting. Like something you would hear during Holy Saturday

>>
>>13789838

You know Im gonna say it. I liked Part 3. I liked seeing the Garland actually win a fucking fight for a change. Shogo was a loser.
>>
>>13789983
Brigadoon is in the pantheon of underrated and under known shows.

The animation and action are really good as well. Shading everywhere despite being an early 2000s show.
>>
Has anyone seen Rideback? I personally liked it a lot
>>
>>13790031
I thought it was OK. My biggest problems with it were 1: the implausibility of the world being taken over by Segways, and 2: They didn't really do much with the racing idea besides that one early episode. But at the very least it was quite interesting, not many protagonists like an ex-ballerina you see in mecha shows.
>>
>>13783963

Orguss was a wreck of a show. Like someone tried to edit the movie Terminator, SDF Macross, and Three's Company into a cohesive whole.

Nice mech designs and great intro and outro music. Shitty plot and disappointing characters.
>>
>>13790005
>I liked seeing the Garland actually win a fucking fight for a change

Yeah, that's the best part of Part 3. It shows off more moves than it did in 1 or 2, as well. But you have to admit, there's not much actually tying it to the other Megazone 23s - just Eve showing up, the evil computer being run by a brainwashed Shogo, and the Proto Garland itself.

How come the Iria OVA gets talks about so often but the Zeiram movies are almost never mentioned? Is it just because Iria got more exposure from the Sci-Fi Channel's Sunday Morning Anime days? Zeiram 2 is even a robot, which makes it as /m/ as anything in the OVA.

and just to emphasize this was all pre 95 shit so there wasn't no internet to spread the word like there is today. If you didn't luck out and catch this on sci fi or find a VHS copy you weren't watching it. if things from back then didn't get traction they just straight up vanished into obscurity.
>>
>>13793702
Iria in anime was cuter waifu than Iria from movies.

Also, the anime was out in teh west early, maybe the movies weren't? My money is on reason #1 though.
>>
>>13793832

The movies did get a release and airing on sci fi network but they weren't exactly advertised like the OVA was. I think I still got a magazine lying around with some adds for it.

More to the point I don't think western audiences where as on board with the whole Toku thing as much as the Japanese where. And despite some decent production values the live action movies did look a good bit sillier and Im sure comic relief electricians didn't help Americans take this shit serious.

The OVA though being anime could do a bit more without being weighed down by the costs of special effects and being set entirely on an alien world made it an easier sell.
>>
movie Iria is plenty cute though
>>
>>13793724

Right now "The Zeiram Duology" is $13 on Amazon. That doesn't really seem like it warrants a re-release. You can get it easily enough if you want it, and I doubt Discotek would do too much more than reprinting those exact discs again. I would much rather have a Mirai Ninja/Cyber Ninja DVD that isn't the full-screen dub only one.

I'm glad to hear that I wasn't the only person let down by Zeiram 2. Most of the fun of the first movie was finding out what horrible thing Zeiram would do or turn into next, but Zeiram 2 basically kept him in bunny-robot mode the whole time and very few of his new powers were particularly interesting.

>You can get it easily enough if you want it,

I own it. Thing is it's easy to find this shit NOW but 20 years ago unless you even knew to look you probably weren't gonna find it. Even if you went to a store the anime/other section was typically really small and the prices where way to high. I guess block buster might have had it though.

Would really love to see a better release of it though.

>I'm glad to hear that I wasn't the only person let down by Zeiram 2.

Well I wouldn't say I disliked it but it was just a completely unnecessary sequel and they just retread too much of the same ground.

I actually rather like bunny bot as a design but it doesn't really scream Zeiram and seems like it really should have been its own thing. Could still be an Iria enemy, she is a pro alien bounty hunter so there's plenty of ways to keep the series going but to make it Zeiram? Just seems like a bad idea.

What is it with all these Umbrella, weyland yutani, Tedan Tippedai companies thinking they can make use of the killer aliens and monsters.
>>
>>13794038
>it doesn't really scream Zeiram and seems like it really should have been its own thing.

They kind of shot themselves in the foot by using Zeiram's name as the title originally. Even the OVA is actually, "Iria: Zeiram the animation." I think they felt like they had to keep Zeiram around so that they didn't have to change the title and risk people not knowing that it was a sequel.
>>
>>13794112
>They kind of shot themselves in the foot by using Zeiram's name as the title originally.

I haven't seen these movies, but I know this is a common problem when you use the villain's name as the title.

The solution would be calling the sequel "The Zieram Slayer Returns" or something.
>>
>>13794112
They should have pulled a rambo
