Not too badly, they just aren't shown getting AA kills too much.

This isn't too far from reality. Most of the time "flak" or direct fire AA doesn't get too many kills.

Maybe Gundam just makes lucky hits look easy most of the time.
But then I'm reminded of RotJ where the A-wing crashed into the bridge of the super star destroyer sending it crashing into the death star.

It's same idea that WWII proved, air power can sink ships. But you need the ships to bring your air power to the fight.

Gundam is also handicapped by Minovsky particles fucking up everything and no countermeasure or alternative ever being found.

Still, the Macross Quarter's guns in that scene were crazy strong. That's three/six shots out of the standard turrets for three ship-to-ship kills. You'd think the Vajra ships would put up more of a fight.

I expected the Quarter to punch through ONE Vajra ship with all three cannons for heavy damage, not one hit = one kill on three ships.

Maybe you should watch shows who have a better grasp of technology and tactics. Mobiles Suits only ruin the day of everything else because Mobilesuits are running around with 23rd century magic-technology and the plot kneecaps anyone who tries to give battleships targeting computers built after 1968.

Macross has ships that blow mech out of the sky, and the Gunbuster for all of its strength would be powerless to destroy the Eltruem.

They are pretty bad. There are some Gundams I have not seen, but in all the ones I have watched they are absolutely powerless in the face of mobilesuits. The only time they ever seem to get any kills is if they use special wide area attacks like a Super Hyper Mega-particle Cannon (which, by the way, is a terrible name for a weapon) to just blow up a bunch of stuff at once before they go back to quaking in their boots the moment anything looks at them.

Most ships in Gundam suffer from the same major flaw, without Mobile Suit support they are nothing more than giant sitting ducks. This fact was made quite apparent to the Federation during the Battle of Loum. Despite the Federation utterly outnumbering and outgunning Zeon at least three fold, warships just lack the capability of being able to properly aim and attack mobile suits.

While most ships later on were equiped with anti-mobile suit defenses, they almost always require a mobile suit or fighter escort to bring them into a battle without the risk of just being instantly destroyed. While they essentially are just expensive, lumbering hangers and turrets for the most part, they are still vital for large scale battles for resupplying and support fire.

Basic physics. A humanoid suit has multiple points of articulation: wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip. All can be adjusted to subtly alter the trajectory of a shot.

A turret is a fixed point. Even 1 degree of alteration at the turret can be hundreds of feet of difference a few hundred meters away.

Exactly right, no matter how well built a warship is for anti-mobile suit warfare (Ex. Birmingham, Dogosse Giar) They just can't compare with the mobility of most Mobile suits, especially post Zeta gundam units. Even with the Federations revisions to warships post One Year War to try and bolster anti aircraft capability, it was not enough to fully remedy the main flaws listed.

Warships by Unicorn are hard as fuck ti destroy without a barrage of fire from a fellow ship. Frontal even had problems taking down the Nahel Argama in a special snowflake char customized gundam wannabe.

It was only easy to destroy ships up until 0083. Further than that, they got better antiair and hulla with beam coating on the vital parts
