It's a show about international competition, presented primarily to children who already have little understanding of other cultures because they probably have not have traveled there. How do you show a child that a person is from another culture in a show? Do you make them a completely normal person, as they would be in the real world, and give them a completely normal robot? Or do you play up stereotypes to make very clear that the person is of another culture? Sunrise opted for the latter.

Both are good, dub is accurate to the script aside from the occasional robot name change.

Dub has some bland performances (lookin' at you Rain) and starts out slow but around episode 6 or so everyone starts easing into their roles. Gatha gets fucking nuts screaming attack names, one of the few English VAs to really nail that anime standard.
