There are questionable moments in most shows though, even Carranger had gay moments (hi Minoru) and it's harder to find moments when two girls on a team /don't/ have gay undertones imo. I'm all caught up with IS subs and I really like it. At first I couldn't tell the difference between green and yellow but after a while they came into their own. I like the whole family aspect because I have a big family as well and you can feel the togetherness they have and understand the hierarchy they have going on. The rescue aspect is what really does it for me adding a very strong sense of urgency to what's going on. Also I love Victory Robo's combination.

Pretty much any time after Gai/Gokai Silver is introduced, you can watch Gokai VS Gavan. It's pretty spoiler free as far as Gokaiger's story is concerned and is almost completely standalone.

The Taisen movies are nonsense and largely forgettable, but also largely inoffensive. I would say Gokaiger spoilers, but everyone acts so hilariously out of character it's not even that.

I've been thinking about that too. I was kind of hoping for Master Shafu 2.0, but honestly they wouldn't hire a whole team of handsome faced talent agency darlings and not give them face time. The animal forms will probably be sporadic at best, and will probably be used for sight gags whenever they can.

The only thing that disappointed me about Kyoryu was what a mess the tail end of the show was. It was like they forgot the show was going to end soon and just half assedly rushed an ending that would haphazardly tie up loose ends and force some drama.

I did find Daigo annoying, but I didn't develop the seething hate for him that everyone else did. For me, most of the other characters were interesting enough that I could forgive Daigo being so two dimensional. And even though a few of the Kyoryugers felt pretty underdeveloped at times, there were a few great focus episodes.

Finally, the villains. The Deboss generals are always going to be the high point of the show. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing when the bad guys are more memorable than the heroes, but I am always going to remember Aigaron, Dogold, Candelira, and Luckyuro as the hidden stars of the show. Plus despite his lame habit of dying too often, Torin was one of the coolest mentors we've had in a while, and that was pretty cool.

It's also one of the few shows that I've seen so far where the characteristics though the suit acting carried out along with the main actors and vice-versa. There's a difference between silly and randumb, and just the same there's a difference between serious and edgy. I think both sides are trying to champion the more moderate option and assume that the opposite is suggesting the extreme.

The series has proven itself capable of a significant range of tones and structures even while adhering to its core concepts. I think a lot of people here are just getting tired of plots falling on the goofier, more formulaic sides and would like to see something a little different. "Darker" doesn't necessarily mean rampant murder, fanservice, swearing, etc. when the baseline is as bright and colorful as it is.

This is the kind of stuff you really need in a sentai. It's hard to give all the rangers a whole of a character development and lines, but there's a lot of body language and behavioral stuff you can do to make their personality shine though at all times. I find too many sentai series have 2-3 main characters... and then the rest.
