Starkiller Base is like the bastard child of the Death Star and the Star Forge. I'd say the Star Forge is arguably a better super weapon than Starkiller Base because it produces entire fleets of ships out of stellar material rather than just blows up planets.

I think my main issue with the movie is that we don't really learn how big this First Order is. I mean all we saw of them was a single planet, which was blown up, and a single star destroyer.

In the original movies we knew the empire was galaxy wide. If it wasn't for Holo-Voldermort with a Nose there'd be nothing implying the First Order had more territory. This Resistance is backed by the New Republic and they only had like 10 X-Wings. If that's all your sending to fight you must not be fighting someone that big.

And fuck that Voldermort looking mother fucker. We didn't even get a glimpse of the Emerpor in the original movies until Empire and that was very brief and you couldn't see much of him. Palpatine or Sheev or whatever his name is had good build up.

Yes. I've been looking for a webm of Poe's rampage. This is where it really feels like we're watching Star Wars in the year 2015. No more shots of the cockpit followed by a cut to two laser blasts followed by a cut to an explosion. Instead, we get to see the ships zip around and move like we've always imagined. Like an actual dogfight.

Also loved how it was framed from Finn's perspective in one tracking shot, like you're marveling at the blue angels during an air show or something, but it's a battle.

This is easy to explain. The First Order, like The Resistance, are a shadow of their former selves and don't have the means to run as tight a ship as they used to. Both sides are basically a tiny fraction in size as their counterparts in the original films.

Like one where Leia's aide (that black woman who's shown prominently before Hosnian Prime gets destroyed) discussing shit with the Senate. Pretty straight forward in the original movies. I remember back when I was a kid going to the local game store 20 years ago and one of the owners blowing our minds that the Galactic Empire was technically the successor to the Old Republic.

I know we can go on how it was tiresome but at least the prequel trilogy went into details of the fall of the Old Republic.

You can stretch the opening crawl in The Force Awakens to include that the Resistance is tasked with finding Luke Skywalker and with investigating the actions of the First Order. It's very aggravating when you have to read supporting material like novels and the Visual Dictionary to shore up and make more sense of the movie.

Maybe the whole "do the right thing" vs "keep your loved ones safe" could have been conflict for him instead, or in a later movie. I don't know, things are pretty muddled right now, and I definitely feel like both Rey and Finn could have used some stronger, more defining character moments. Not a lot of point-A to point-B development.

It's stated that he knows, but he's decided (or more likely has been led to believe) Vader was the real person and Anakin was the fuck-up, not the other way around. Still not really sure where Ren's character is going; The novel (and Adam Driver's acting) would indicate that his character has a lot of inner conflict but Abrams said he was supposed to be cut-and-dried evil by the time of TFA.
