***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

>>
>>13658093
Where do you think you are?
>>
What's the best pen for panel lining?
>>
>>13658244
I like real touch markers. I just tap the panel line and let the link sink in, then clean it up with a cotton swab and a little alcohol, but the ink is so weak you can almost just rub of the excess with your finger lol. It kinda fades over time though, but that's just panel lining pins in general, nothing can beat actual paint. I don't know how it would work on painted kits though. Try checking the guide.
>>
>>13657850
nice work, are you going to give it it's regular paint scheme or choose your own colors?
>>
I don't understand how people can spend so much on gunpla and never actually improve. Like all the tripfags here have tons of kits, but none of them are improvements. Like with each kit I bought I tried to improve on my last one. Better nub removal, increasingly more complex painting, cleaner panel lining, that kinda thing. How can people spend so much time, and money on gunpla and never once think "I wonder if I could do this better?" Are they intentionally bad as some kind of ironic joke? Cause what's the bit? They wasted money, good for them I guess.
>>
>>13658419
Sometimes you just have to get a kit done. If you're referring to snapshit, he's a shitposter who just wants replies.
>>
>>13658419
Sometimes its more about wanting a kit to have that kit rather than about your building expertise.

Personally, I'll buy an HG every once-in-a-while to make sure what skills I do have don't completely go to shit. I'm also more careful on some kits than others.

I'm still a horrible amateur but I think I got rid of all the mold flash on this one. Well, maybe.

I like this model, I think it looks a lot better in 2D as opposed to 3D. Also it's got all the parts in the box on the kit, so no leftovers.

My next project though is a Zone of the Enders kit. It's my first Kotobukiya, Dolores, so I'm pretty intimidated.

Black or gray panel lining on the red? I even managed to paint the MGs on the chest. It adds a nice detail
>>
>>13659184
I keep one around to clip 3mm pegs from for modding. The rest I toss out after removing any extra parts.
>>
>>13659184

clip all extra parts, add them to giant ziplock of extra parts

clip all polycaps, put them in their ziplock bag

keep any special color runners, especially clear ones, I even keep clear segments from visors like from the A runners

then I toss the rest because I always have more than I need by 1000x, you will basically never need more than 1 extra runner
>>
>>13659275
I guess it's subjective but I prefer only black panel lines on everything except black parts
>>
>>13659217
>>13659286

I only keep a single piece of clear pink runner for adding monoeyes to older kits. I stoped caring about keeping various clored ones when I realized art stores sell clear sheets of plastic for like $1 in the scrapbook paper aisle and I could just use clear paint to make thrm any color I want.

Hey, I'm thinking about picking up an MG Crossbone. Now the question is which one, Ver Ka, or the Full Cloth. The manual scans on dalong seem to point to both kits having the exact same plates with the full cloth just getting some extra ones for the weapons and cape. Is there any reason to get the ver Ka instead? Side note, can you just build the ver Ka head using the extra parts from the full cloth, essentially giving you two different heads to choose from?
>>
>>13659447
The ver ka comes with the realistic skull chest as opposed to the cartoony one on the full cloth and the head and faces have slight variance between the 2 thats hard to see because dalong panel lined then terribly

just be aware of 2 things:
- the hands simply can't hold the peacock smasher or the muramasa blaster, teir weight is too much
- also, the wrist connector is really fragile, and you may end up breaking it if you are not careful

Anyone know why they made the HG Unicorn's psycoframe panels clear plastic? It's not like that in the lineart or artbooks.

yes, although you could try to make your own using an old piece of actual cloth or fabric

Because the original MG Unicorn ver. Ka from 2007 used clear red plastic and that preceded all artbooks and the OVA.

Yeah but who's going to wire LED's into a HG. Like less than 1% of people who purchased it.

I mean as a precedent sure but that's no reason to make a trend. I actually find it kind of awkward.
>>
>>13659989
I remember a blog which showed some crazy motherfucker that put a LED on the ultra shitty old 1/144 Victory kit
>>
>>13659842
It shows the "glow" the frame is known for better than a solid glossy/metallic red. Doubt they designed it with the possibility of modeler's showing LEDs into it but under a UV light the effect is better than, say, the RDs.
>>
>>13659842
It lights up under UV light. It was the main gimmick for clear parts for a while until they realized you could put a silver sticker under the clear part to make it catch regular light too.

How do I git gud at nub removal? Back in the day, I'd do it exclusively with the knife, with varying success. Eventually I moved on to sanding strips, but they were rather coarse and scratched up more than I would've done with just the knife.Only recently now that I'm getting back into modeling am I actually bothering with proper sanding paper and paying attention to grits. I currently use 600-800 and polish with 4000-8000, but my biggest concern is just surface reshaping and too much material removal. How do I push myself to continue? I feel like I'm fucking up every time I have to get rid of a nub. I find that no matter what surface I use to sand, I end up convexing too much, and I feel like I'm doing more damage this way than I did before

As someone who has also built one of these, my advice with the clear blue bits is to remember what the Exia looks like and not fuck up the shoulder-to-arm ones, they're supposed to stick out and not be flush. Head is aight, don't know what the other guy's on about, but the V-fin does like to pop off, as does the top piece. I recommend a little bit of glue. Also remember that the RG shoulder armor mounting system is weak as shit and should be treated with care, and remember not to snip what looks like nubs off of the beam saber handles because it's 3 in the morning and you're suffering from insomnia.

Hate to break it to you but the fact that you got it for that price as well as a stand for it, which is something not included with the ones sold at the hobby expo it came from, highly indicates you bought a knock-off.

But i guess it doesn't matter whether you have the real thing or not since you're just going to turn it into an un panel lined nub salad. looks like that other guy did get it for a few bucks more but it was still for a good price not to mention there's a really high chance that his will look a lot better than yours.

Yes. There is no argument there and I'm even surprised they're making an effect part for it, pleasantly surprised. But you have to consider there is still a lot of HG to be made. Or what about some enemy units for the V Gundams? No Crossbone VG suits. No Zanscare. There's sentinel kits but no Mk-V. No Turn-X,
>>
>>13662513
Those aren't HG though... they're old 1/144 NGs.

The REVIVES are REVIVING HG kits. You can't exactly REVIVE something when it doesn't have an original.

Also Victory 1 and 2 both have new modern HGs. So get out of here with that shit.

Yeah I had either the S or the Ex-S can't remember. I also had an Xeku Eins and BACK THEN I wanted a Z plus sooo badly you have no idea. Ten years later, finally gets a HG. Too late for me to care.

I'll never buy the HG V or Crossbones cause there's no enemy units. Bandai's policy of taking no-risks should have repercussions.

The kit did have flaws, though. The rifle came with a grey scope, not a yellow one, and the sticker for the crotch is the same type as the one used for the markings rather than the usual sticker batch.
>>
I struggle to remove the stain left by nub removal. I've tried sanding with progressively finer grit, and that removes it in some cases, but in others it it just lights the mark or makes the surface uneven from excessive sanding. Am I better off just doing some light sanding and then using paint to restore the color?
>>
>>13663037

This is especially true on brighter shades of red and blue plastic. I'm just grateful the Lightning Zeta i'm building at the moment does a good job of hiding where the runners were at.

I'm not talking about the accessories, i'm talking about you shaving off those nubs. The pic is for you, and it's just from a glance.

>>13663037
what I honestly do is use a black/gray/brown panel marker to color in the stain. I let it sit for 10-20 seconds and then rub it with a TINY bit of force with my thumb or a q-tip. I don't know if it's good advice, but my models look better this way than if I were to just leave the obnoxiously noticeable stain.
>>
>>13663049

Do you have a photo example? I'll give it a try though. I've got a Ez-8 Kai and a Marine Gelgoog i'm going to be building next.

I apologize for the horrible quality. This is Char's zaku that I'm currently working on. The white stain compared to the second "dot" from the left is what I'm talking about. If it looks too dark, I take my hobby knife and scrape it down until it feels right

I tried to do that (I guess it doesn't show eh), but then I added way too much water. So I tried to add some more paint to give it more consistency and it ended up like that.

I usually do like 2 parts paint to 1 part water. The best explanation I've heard, while not entirely accurate is that you want it to have the consistency of milk. Not too thin though not thick as well.

This might be a bit autistic but when I paint things whether it be for a tabletop game or whatever it is, I usually like the paint job to make sense within the setting. As far as customs go, is there any rhyme or reason for custom paint jobs? Like would it just be an exceptional pilot is allowed to have his paint job as whatever he wants? Is there any sort of standard when it comes to it? Like Char's suits all being red.

Welp /m/ my grandma is sick and threw up twice on Christmas eve. She might end up going to the hospital since her right side is hurting. It'd be nice if my her son could take her, but my uncle and aunt doubt everything I fucking say and generally consider me and my mother (who decided to get away from all this and move to fucking Alaska) are moronic idiots. At least my grandma isn't a hamburger, though her appendix might be.

Sorry for the blog, post your favorite builds you have done this year please.

MG V2 straightbuild review by Miki Yoshi (2014 GBWC Japan champion) is up on Bandai Hobby's website.
Says it's overall sturdier that MG Victory, and the locks inside the frame work very well.

Personally, I really want to know why Bandai went with stickers for the red areas on the hardpoints. They managed to mold the circular grey bits on RG Exia's legs perfectly. Price problem, perhaps?

Dear Snapfit-Kun,
I always admired how you break the rule of conformity in these threads as it provides a more diverse environment for the imagination to flourish. Only I can admire the stylistic choices implemented into your Gunpla, whereas others only berate them as shoddily crafted pieces of work. You maintained a positive attitude even when others would seem to put you down, and your dedication to completing the G-Reco HG line is rivaled by no other. Leaving off with these words, I hope you will continue going strong in 2016!
