There's no way Valkyrie Squad will be as badass as AKB0048. They piloted, they flew on hoverboards, they had lightsaber mics, they had specialized weapons -- and that's not even touching Chieri transcending time and space in the finale or Mayuyu being a cyborg.

That said, the CGI dancing in AKB0048 wasn't great. It might look better if it's next to a CGI VF I guess.

I listened to MW's podcast and
it seems like Freyja is part of the same race as the aerial knights. She even has one of those hair thingies. And she's running away from home in order to become part of Walküre, her dream, and also avoid getting married.

The Walküre girls sound almost warrior-like. The use what they describe in the podcast as some sort of boomerangs that have lots of different functions. It sounds a lot like 0048.

If you look carefully at the CGI models, they actually have the same hardpoint mounts as the toys do. They're literally using the CAD models for the toys as the CGI models. This isn't the old Macross Plus/7 days, where the designs were physically impossible. Ever since the Renewal VF-25 toys, and the YF-29 and everything, all the CGI models have matched the toy models.

I'm not worried. I think it'll be physically possible, for both the toys and the CGI. There's nothing about the Draken's design that's impossible.

That hasn't been a problem since they started using CGI. Kawamori designs the most recent VFs with CGI/Model kits in mind, so there's not really a reason to fudge the transformations since the CGI model and the eventual toy are roughly the same thing. The biggest issues with the toys are clips and the like that are needed to keep things in place where in-universe those parts transform on and are partially held in place by electromagnetic rails.

Not exactly. The original release of the VF-25 toys was absolute fucking garbage. Just... terrible, in so many ways. The renewal version fixed everything.

But the YF-29, YF-30 and VF-31 use identical models between the CGI and toys. They actually altered the CGI models so they'd have all the same features as the toys. And in the Delta PVs, you can actually see the tabs and slots from the toys on the CGI model!
See the circled part? That's actually a tab you flip out on the toy to lock the folding fuselage segment behind the cockpit in place below it.

The VF-25 Renewal and YF-29 toys had an integrated brace in GERWALK mode (that also doubled as a gunpod mount), and didn't require any sort of brace in Battroid due to the way their waist transformed. But the YF-30's design has inherently poor lower-body support.

The VF-31's design changes seem to be designed to counteract that though. The little fuselage segment behind the cockpit pegs in where you'd have the brace on the YF-30's Battroid mode, which makes me think that they added that specifically to act as an integrated brace.

So, I wouldn't worry too much. About the VF-31 at least. No fucking idea how the Draken III's gonna go. It looks like the transformation might be pretty nuts. The SV-51's sure as shit was.
