I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh! mostly because it was the only TCG were product was readily available in my shit country. However, I always wanted to play MtG. I stopped playing because it was a huge waste of money I could use instead for /m/ stuff, also my local scene is full of thieves, smelly people, rude people, scammers, rulesharks, and /a/-type otaku.
>>
>>13627152
mtg or ygo?

I play yugioh competitively and mtg casually(I have a proxied sliver EDH deck, that's about it).

my locals scene for MTG was mostly chill with several neckbeards, and my ygo was arrogant retards as well as one turbo-jew who was laughed out of the community for being arrogant, yet still a scrub who lost and tried to jew hte 9 year old that played there.
>>
MtG, but it's not really /m/ at the moment.

That said, I'm hoping Shadows over Innistrad turns out to be deep into the eldritch corner of the horror genre. Cosmic horror is the logical followup to gothic, and a certain spaghetti monster has been unaccounted for since the Zendikar return trip trainwreck began.

I've been playing mtg for a couple of years now. I want to stop spending money on it to start building gunpla, but there aren't any shops for it nearby. I'm just gonna sink into despair in the meantime. At least I haven't bought any new cards recently =_=

How do you play vanguard? What are all those symbols?
>>
Did anyone ever play Gundam War? It's true that it's not very popular in Japan?
>>
Weiss Schwarz, Symphogear G deck
>>
>>13627462
It's weird, you choose one character to be your 'Vanguard' and then summon support characters to fight/defend for you. Been a while since I played but that's the gist, the weird part is you choose your vanguard at will instead of playing one from your hand.
>>
>>13627685
So it's like your deck leader that you always have from the beginning?
>>
>>13627707
Yes and no. You start out with a grade 0 vanguard of your choice in the vanguard circle. You "ride" to the next grade by choosing a card that is one grade higher than your current vanguard and placing it on top. Grade 3 is the highest riding grade except for the special snowflake dragon clan who get a grade 4. There is a new mechanic involving more grade 4s but I'm not gonna talk about them.

>>13627719
You ride from your hand, not searching your deck by the way.
Damage is dealt when an attack hits your vanguard. Damages are cards from the top of your deck. 6 damage means game over. When you take a damage, you flip the top card of your deck and put it in the damage zone.
For damage to be dealt, the attacking power has to be equal to or greater than the defending power. A 8000 power to a 9000 power vanguard will not hit.

When being attacked, you may take cards from your hand into the guardian circle. This increases your vanguards power. Shield power is determined by the number in the middle, left hand edge of the card. Grade 0 normally have 10000 shield, Grade 1 and 2 normally have 5000 shield and Grade 3 have no shield.

When you attack, you turn the attacking card sideways. Only the front row of units can attack, but the back row has a key part in attacking as well. When the front unit attacks, if the back unit is grade 0 or 1, that unit can give it's power to the attacking unit. A 8000 attack rearguard can attack up to 16000 with a boost.

When the vanguard attacks, you flip the top card of your deck. If it is a non-trigger unit, it gets added to your hand and nothing happens. If it is a trigger unit (grade 0, outlined in yellow and have an icon in the upper corner), then 5000 power is added to a unit of your choice and depending on the trigger type it will
Increase the damage being dealt by one point (critical trigger)
Draw a card (draw trigger)
Stand a rear guard (stand trigger)
Heal one point of damage (Heal Trigger)
The trigger is also added to your hand.
>>
>>13627407
The format of the card makes me want to gouge my eyes out. What's the point of full art if you're just going to throw a wall of text on top of it?

Also, Yugioh best game.

>>13628067
He's not complaining about walls of text, he's complaining about having a nice card with full artwork then ruining by throwing a massive all of text over it. Look at Pokemon, even their Trainer Cards/Supporters rarely have have text completely covering half of their art.
>>
>>13628067
I just like Yugioh more. It's not really the best game.

Anyway, Vanguard isn't the worst offender.

MTG
>>
>>13628124
There is a game coming to steam early 2016.

I highly advise NOT starting with G as it focuses less on the fights and more on a slice of life standpoint. They don't explain what's going on at all and just skip to the last 2 or 3 turns.
>>
>>13627081
I played MtG a while ago, and I still have all my cards, but unfortunately I don't have anyone to play against and haven't for over a year now. I had a nice group of people though, it was fun.

More recently I got back into Yugioh in a more friendly environment (e.g. people don't spam fucking PePe/BA/whatever decks). Had a bit of fun running Igknight for a while, but then Super Quantums came out and oh goodness do I love Super Quantums.

I used to, but quit due to the cost of buying and maintaining cards.

Started with Pokemon (way before those fucking barcodes ruined them for a long time).

Expanded into YuGiOh. This one lasted the longest until all my friends quit playing. Then I stopped collecting entirely a year later.

Then started Duel Masters. But that didn't last long in the US. Was aiming for a Fire and Light Deck because both had mecha, with the Light Civilization being heavily mecha (Fire Civilization was more Cyborg dinos/dragons and some mecha). Tapped a few of the Dark Civilization as well since they had some 40k style Chaos monsters, including a large undead mecha/monster that looked kind of like Red Alert Tiberium Sun's Reaper Cyborg.

Then when I got my first smartphone, I started into the Digital TCG arena with several games. Some of which have since died and others that are still going. Had to stop that as well since I was burning too much money aiming for the top cards every update.

Mtg and Wixoss, mostly. Wixoss is an absolutely brilliantly designed game that I wish more than 5 people on the entire North American continent actually played. English edition never.
Admittedly not super /m/, but there's an archetype based on robot waifus, so that maybe counts?

Duel Masters had a resurgence in the 2010s, they did a rebranded launch as Kaijudo and that was kind of cool. But it only lasted a bit. (TV show was neat though, it's a very rare show in that despite being based on a card game, it had absolutely no cards)

Getting extra draws in a deck that is discard heavy = good. Having a card that can provide Magnaliger or Aeroboros = Good.

The current Tier in Vanguard is quite simple really:

Tier 1: PBDA Revengers, Messiah, Ripples, Sanctuary Guard (Sing Saver optional), Chaos Breaker Dragon (when Chaos Universe comes out in English), and maybe Lambros, DotX, Big Bang Turbo + some other decks for the 1.5 stuff
"Casual Deck" Tier: Everything else

The game is centred around a LRIG (a sort of player avatar), which levels up over the course of the game, and combat is somewhat like Weiss Schwarz, in that it focuses on 3 'lanes' of attack (but without the multiple attack options in WS).
This (picture) is a decent rule summary.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rnu7P_PEXiw
This (video) gives a basic sense of the turn progression and game flow.
http://selector-wixoss.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:BlitzerRyuusei/Game_Flow_As_It_Relates_to_Deck_Construction
This (link) has some more advanced stuff, such as when to attack and when not to, how card advantage tends to play out (quite differently from many other tcgs, due to only having 3 'creature' slots, and drawing two a turn), and some deck construction tips.

Also, if you're still around, I can play a practice game with you on Webxoss (free online play platform).

Unless we are reading each other wrong that's what G-Regulation is, all the Stride related stuff that has been released since the first G Trial Deck onwards has its own format in Japan.

Note: When I mentioned the G Block, it basically meant the stuff from the Stride Era since all the products codes had G added in front of them (ie. G-TD, G-BT, etc.)
>>
>>13638276
It's not as G Regulation limits the main deck building. What is getting suggested is pretty much 2 whole other formats. One where the extra deck can be used and another where it isn't and its support(Namely Generation Break) takes that dive with it.
>>
>>13627081
I wish Inzektors were better so I could get my Kabuto boner off.
>>
>>13638678
>it's not as G Regulation limits the main deck building
>making stride support take the dive

>that irony
It's better to say that it's different in the fact that there'd just be no extra. Where as G-reg is all about it,that other format would be against it. Whiich would probably blow over better than G Reg since the main problem with that was that people couldn't use not just a portion but the whole of their decks they've been building for like 5 years.

>>
>>13638746

At least with Magic cards they usually maintain their value until the end of time except for that one time due to major gameplay mechanics change, which rendered certain card worthless unlike the rest for various reasons:

Yugioh: Banlist and newer more broken shit come out all the time
CFV: Things can and will fall out of flavor when new sets come out, conversely when older stuff are being supported prices for some of the old cards spike
Pokemon: Rotation similar to Magic, and current Pokemon cards are not THAT expensive compared to everything else

>My Modern Burn deck's mana base alone costs that much.

Guildpact stomping grounds are $13.98 each, I run a playset of them so that's $52 right there. A playset of Sacred Foundries is $60, KTK Bloodstained Mires are $20.43 each so that's $82 for a playset and Wooded Foothills are also $20 so that's another $80 on top. and my 4 basic mountains are from Unhinged so that's another $40, bringing my grand total to $314
Whats even worse is that I live in Cannuckistan, where every dollar is only worth 72 cents US so my mana base actually costs me $437

>>13639916
Madolche isn't that bad, honestly. Just annoying. it also consistently loses to Zombie World decks.
>>
>>13639741
>>13639693
Atarka's is only one set in the entire deck. You don't need 4 RG shocks. Maybe 3 max. That's why you shilled for fetches. The only other time you should need green is if you board in Destructive Revelry, or if you decided to run Wild Nacatl, in which case, maybe you would want 4. I haven't played Nacatl Burn and you didn't specify if that's the version you were running.
>>
>>13639932
Elemental dragons was the best format because you could slap dragons in any deck and it would work
>>
>>13642312
Outside of top level comp, this format feels very flexible as far as what bullshit you're allowed to pull off thanks to Pendulum and Fusion support. Even the janky as fuck decks like Quantums or lmao 5Odd-eyes are still incredibly threatening. I'll always miss Elemental Dragons though, mainly because they let me play a Blue-Eyes turbo variant without Exodia.
>>
>>13642312
I remember on DN's "rate the deck" forum there was a joke deck circulating around by the name of "WATAPON OP" that was Watapon... and then a bunch of Element Dragons.

But seriously HA Obelisk splashed into DR was fun.

>>13642348
>janky as fuck decks like Quantums

Quantums might be janky, but they can pull out Magnus Turn 1 before you can move, and depending on what your deck is (IE no Kaiju, Lava Golem, or easily summonable monsters above 3600) you might well have already lost.

Top level is pretty much just the same two or three decks over and over though. That's what we get when all of the current top formats get nerfed except maybe one of them, but the really new one that was just coming overseas wasn't!
>>
>>13642373
Right, janky as fuck, but it lets you drop huge walls in front of your opponent that take some real work to get over. Like the early Obelisk decks before mass summoning tributable cards was really a thing.
>>
>>13642390
It's the fun kind of jank. Sort of like Igknights would have been if Igknights had had a boss monster worth shit. (Aside from Rhongo, I guess, but if you can get him out even with the Igknight engine your opponent deserves what is about to happen to them)
>>
>>13639932
>>13639919
The point is nobody wants to play them. They're an annoying deck.

Granted, I haven't played since Drag Ruler format.
>>
>>13638731
Oh how I loved Inzektors back in their prime. Weren't they and/or Wind-ups the reason why there was a shift to a hard once per turn clause?
>>
>>13643997
I think it was the Plant engine that really started that up? But it has picked up steam in the past few years.

It's great for balance though. Remember Dark Strike Fighter before they errata'd that onto it? Fucking terrible.
>>
>>13644012
Never played when DSF was legal so can't imagine how that was like.
>>
>>13644027
It basically went like this:

>Step 1: Bring out Dark Strike Fighter with a deck using specific engine types (I think Toads were the big one, but it wasn't picky)
>Step 2: Win game.

Now that it's once per turn, it's nice, but it got shoved off the banlist and no one really said anything bad about that.
>>
I used to play YGO a lot. Never tournament level or anything, but would play with a few friends. Used to run a VWXYZ deck, but got bored of the game about halfway through the 5D's sets.

I was thinking of getting back into it after picking up the Noble Knights of the Round Table, but I dunno. YGO's meta has always been really terrible, and I don't have anyone to play with. Might just dick around on Duelist Network sometime.
>>
>>13644035
Glad I finally quit playing the game when Shaddolls was hit. Now I just play some MtG when I can. Mostly EDH though and I've been messing around with Force of Will for a few months now.
>>
>>13644166
Oh, upper level play is a mess right now. You either run PePe, run Burning Abyss, or get your ass kicked by people running PePe and BA (with the very rare other deck making it high, but none can break the logjam hold those two have on the tournament scene). Both are probably going to get hit in February/March, but until then I'd just try to play friendlies if you do Yugioh - after the top there's a wide variety of decks you can make work.

>Now I just play some MtG when I can. Mostly EDH though

My last group of MtG friends all played EDH too. My deck was too shit to get anything good done though.
>>
>>13644035

>Toads

Dark Strike was banned already by that time, it was either Blackwings, Summoning Monk + Rescue Cat, or some other things
>>
>>13644528
Ah, right, I was getting my broken loop engines mixed up (fucking Rescue Cat).

Toads were a right pain in the ass though.
>>
>>13644239
Last time I played EDH I pissed off my group due to excessive amounts of durdle dickery.

Now I kinda stay away from the format since everything I build inevitably mutates into casting Devastation Tide or something else dumb and durdly every turn and preventing any actual boardstate progression.

In my defense I don't even do it efficiently, anyone with a decent EDH pile should have outs to pseudo-Upheaval. But even then I honestly feel like Upheaval is more fair; at least games are likely to end sooner when someone Upheavals to their advantage, D-Tide is just "fuck everyone's everything everywhere forever" and you only think it's fair because you still have your lands.

>>13638862

At least that's 20 cards for $300 and as I said they usually maintain their value well. Here's an example of a stupidly expensive Tier 1 CFV deck aka PBA Revengers for the notable expensive cards:

Main Deck

Revenger Phantom Blaster Abyss: $35 x 4 = $140
Blaster Dark Revenger Abyss: $35 x 4 = $140
Revenger Perfect Guards: $25~30 for a playset, add $10 if you want a playset of Perfect Guard G instead
Blaster Dark Revenger: $5 x 4 = $20
Mordred Phantom: $5 x 4 = $20
Blackwinged Swordbreaker: $10 x 2 = $20
Barrier Troop Revenger, Dorint: $3 x 4 = $12

G-Zone

Aurageyser Dragon: $25 x 2 = $50
Phantom Blaster Diablo: $10 or $20 for a playset (if you decide to bling them)
Grim Recruiter: $5

I might have underpriced the Abyss pair since I doubt PBA Revenger will ever leave the Tier 1 any time soon

Black Holes only form from stars that are so supermassive that when they collapse they basically tell physics to go fuck itself, the gravity compresses matter beyond the point it can compress. Now the type of star that does this is always a blue giant, whereas IIRC the star in that scene was a fairly standard G - type yellow star like our sun, which become red giants when they die. So yeah, stellar physics.

Synchros (White cards) can be summoned through a Tuner monster and a non-tuner monster who's combined level equals that Synchro (IE, Junk Synchron (3) + Quillbolt Hedgehog (2) = Junk Warrior (5))

Xyzs (Black cards) can be summoned by using two cards that share the same level (Ganbara Knight(Level 4) + Trident Warrior(Level 4) = Number 39: Utopia(Level 4))

Rafiq is a pretty good knight commander in both blue and white. Sharuum, Sen Triplets, and Daxos are also good artifact commanders with blue and white in their colors.
>>
I swear only regalia and rulers get this much clutter text. Force of Will is a good fusion of Yugioh and Magic. Only void/colorless gets the machines, and you have to work hard to use them currently. Feels strange both fueling and countering the meta with pic related and Mechanical Knight though.
