OP, your image tells my opinion of FMP! quite succinctly: Kaname in her school uniform in the foreground, mecha in the background. That's why I don't like it very much, despite the fact it has a pretty interesting setting that the series doesn't exploit very much.
Oh, and there's also that thing that the protagonist non-Gundams run literally on willpower magic.

You clearly haven't read the manga, get to that once they get past the story that takes place in The Second Raid shit gets real and school is nowhere to be seen until the epilogue.

I mean, aside from the anime unique story they cut content from the books they were adapting to fit in (lol) it's not terrible, but the KyoAni series are better at both comedy and not comedy.
