And just cause they happen to have water in them does absolutely not mean they're made of meat, it could just as easily be Shirow's usual polymer pseudo-muscles, which they seem to have in the first version. As for the digestive track, I really doubt a biological one, even artificial, could digest steel and styrofoam, which seem to be part of their usual diet, most likely it's some kind of cold fusion reactor. There's also the "electrical yawn" and the "memory crystal" and the military grade targeting system that pop up at some points.
