His father didn't want him going into the military so he put him in an elite unit full of super aces and gave him an awesome suit to reduce the chance he was going to die. He gets bullied mercilessly about it.

Io seems alright, I thought the Fed with the blue hair and glasses was a woman until he talked. Zeeks came across as a little flat, might be because no subs or anything. The Zaku pov sequence was pretty cool, other than that the action wasn't all that great.

Also women with pompadours look silly.

Pretty faithful to the source work and it ended where I predicted. Based on the preview, the 2nd episode is going to be the same with the battle between Daryl and Io in the Zaku I and Gundam (The Rick Dom being burned is Fisher's), The Mua Brotherhood and Living Dead Division fleet battle and then the episode either ending with Daryl's arm being cut off, or launching in the Psycho Zaku.

They added some scenes to clarify things, like how the GM crashed in the wreckage (He was blinded by a thunderbolt) and how Io managed to get the drop on Hoover.

A few of the little things they left out disappointed me. Some made sense because of the time constraints, like the Living Dead Community bus scene, or the Feddies in tizzy at the approaching Rick Dom before they figured it was Io because he was broadcasting his Jazz music. But the subtle stuff that cut bugged me, like them not having the scene of Daryl and his friend high fiving each other and saying 'Sieg Zeon'.

Io's take down of the sniper at the end seemed particularly sadistic since he systematically took away the Zaku's weapons and any chance it had to escape, before pinning it and then taking his time to stab the cockpit.

I'm not sure if the anime mentioned it, but in the Manga they had the mua fleet launch a massive smoke screen to mask their approach, with the intention of getting close enough so they'd miss their shots or give away their positions. It didn't work and the Zeon snipers could snipe them while they were still within the screen.

Their plan was to sweep the area with multiple flights of GMs, and as soon as anyone took sniper fire to respond with heavy suppression fire from the three beam guns mounted on a Thunderbolt GM.
