Nah, it's directed by Osamu Kaneda. Fucked up priorities, like long build ups to underwhelmingly short battles, and heroes and monsters just fighting with generic blows rather than their actual abilities, are expected in his movies.

Add to that a writer who hasn't worked with either Drive or Ghost, so you probably won't get detailed battle descriptions from him forcing Kaneda to not be a lazy ass and then you get the supposedly mostly off screen or underwhelming battles of this movie.

I am thinking that Ganma Royalty can grant them, and Sage is royalty banished for not being enough of a dick. Maybe Yurusen in a suprise turn of events too and she is suffering from a Midna thing where she gets transformed into a little ghost. Like I can see Sage as an uncle Iroh to the family. Extremely limited. It's super weird because Chase just shows up to help out of nowhere and Go is surprised and they have a few lines and then transform together. Then Honganji shows up immediately after and steals the scene (he gets killed within seconds) and then it cuts away from the fight and to his funeral scene for jokes and stuff. Then Go, Chase and a wildly out of character Makoto go fight at THE warehouse. The fight moves to outdoors and around that time Shin and Takeru "beat" in the past and the Roimudes disappear. Chase and Go have a short "Farewell" moment and Chase disappears.

Takeru, Makoto, Akari, Kanon and Onari would be deaged a little, they would be a secret team of mystery investigators who learn about mysterious incidents, discover clues and help people, but, in actual scooby doo fashion, theres only costumed crooks most of the time, still, Takeru and Makoto, despite being alive have access to the drivers and the hero eyecons, allowing them to take on the crooks as ghost and specter, the 15 heroes prophecy doesnt exist here.

Takeru would be still interested in searching his life purpose and trying to learn what means to become a hero, but he would start to become dissillusioned because, he cant do anything interesting with his life, and it doesnt help that he doesnt like using superpowers to take on costumed crooks and thieves, this apparently selfish attitude has him kinda at odds with his father (yes, takerus father is still alive here, he would still be the daitenkuu temple master and secret ghost hunter/researcher in preparation for the conflict with the ganma, who apparently are just beginning to start their plans)

The sage and yurusen are still there and basically the same, the sage gave takeru and makoto the drivers so they can train for a 'great destiny' (the imminent coming of the ganma), who, in typical sage fashion, he makes sure to never tell about it, yurusen acts like the scooby of the team, hangin with takeru most of the time in a kinda more amicable fashion, she is still a prick, but at least more active/helpful, and also acts as a proxy for the sage, keeping check on takeru and makotos progress on learning to use the ghost powers.

The main incident (this being a decade AR) is the team dealing with the first batch of ganma, despite the experience both have gained fighting crooks, takeru and makoto barely manage to survive the battle, kinda obvious really, a demonic ghost man would always be way tougher than a dude on a costume afterall.

Both takeru and makoto got quite shaken up from the incident, specially takeru, but makoto, being more determined and serious, decides to go on despite all, takeru who is kinda of a wuss doesnt, thats where tsukasa and co enter.

Thanks to tsukasa and co help, tenkuuji sr's guide, akaris friendship, and a little bit of sage assholishness, takeru finally understands what truly means to become a hero, recovers his resolve and goes after another band of ganma, who has makoto already on the ropes.
