Do Plus before 7. Plus is about a bunch of things, but one of the things it's about is the challenge of whether the YF-19 or the YF-21 will be made into the next generation of VF, and literally everything post-Plus is a spoiler to that.

I thought it was a good "re-imagining" of the original Marcross - the changes necessary to round everything down into one, almost stand alone movie. Well it certainly had limitations, I felt it did a better job of explaining it's loose ends that the Rebuilds did.

While one would probably need to see both NGE and Mac to get the full picture of the Rebuilds and DYRL respectively, I believe DYRL did a cleaner, more concise job.

I'm newish to /m/, which sequences are you referring to?

Well the Rebuilds aren't even done yet so you can say it didn't tie up any loose ends...when there's still one movie to go. Also DYRL doesn't have anything to offer in terms of characters and story since the well-regarded and memorable cast if the TV series are rendered one-dimensional due to the format, it suffers the same problems as other "re-imaging" features like Escaflowne and Pocket Full of Rainbows were its just no interesting nor holds up well, its a visual fest but that's about it.

I suppose you're right. The Rebuilds do suffer from Eva's popularity/waifufags claiming they're reductionist as far as characters go, and this is certainly true for DYRL, where as the Rebuilds aren't finished yet.

As you've said, they are made "one-dimensional" for the format, but I think it's a necessity for a single, feature length film.

A quick case of this is the Zentradi/Meltradi conflict; simply made a man vs woman solved through the POWER OF LOVE for DYRL.
