Playing Medarot 2 right now. Figured I'll play the series first and maybe watch the show later.

So far it's pretty damn fun, my Kabuto medal just evolved to it's second evolution and my Medaforce is strong as fuck.

I love Medabots to the point of coming here for threads, but I'm so low-tier in Medabots stuff, and even lower in /m/ stuff, that I just don't have much to add to discussions.
Despite that, I will say that the anime is really good, the dub being a childhood favorite, and with the subs now coming out, I'm glad to be able to say that it still holds up.
I've only played the English GBA games, but those were also fun, if only just to collect and assort different bots and parts, so basing on my enjoyment of those, I'm still holding out for localization of the newer games.
The designs of all the different Medabots are what really make it worth liking, though.

Medarot 1 (gbc) = a slight better than pokemon red/green
Medarot 2~4 (gbc) = Pricelessly good!
It gave reason to medabots usually not able to direct attack humans:
1: 3 Laws of Medabot, One of them is "Do not harm humans."
2: RoboRobo Team are too dumb to really harm humans.
3: Those 3 laws are broken sometimes in the story by the Aliens or the Willy tier mind.
4: Ikki. He is not just an puppet what you control.

Medarot 5: Jan-Ken-Pon sucks. Medarot for profissionals. Also incomplete.

Metabee is easier since you have two arm weapons, and the head missles. Rokusho is more of a support Medabot since his head part increases your team's accuracy. Every time I play Rokusho I have a hard time with the ghost boss, while in the Metabee version I destroy him.

Personally I'd say just look up a list of what bot is in what game and pick which one has your favorite.

They do last forever. Some battles drag so much that the game limits the battles with a time limit. Some battles end up on the first attack if you're lucky and blow up the leader Medarot head but that's not reliable.

It's because so many Medarot are either built for blocking attacks from their team mates or making you miss your attacks. It can drag on.

Yeah, it's mostly just different.
Gets rid of familiar characters, and I haven't seen it in a while so I'm not sure, but I think it's not as well animated as the first series and the overall writing isn't as interesting.
But again, I haven't seen it in a while.

Yeah, it's not a masterpiece, it's fucking awful.
Even if you ignore the missing characters, everything that made the original any good is missing.

Add that the animation and action is pretty poor, and you've got a lackluster series on your hands.
