The other day I watched Daimajuu Gekitou: Hagane no Oni. Short and fighting happens at the end, but worth the watch.

Not necessarily 90's but anyone have recommendations for Any OVA like MD Geist/Mad Bull 34/Cyber City Oedo?
Preferably with the over the top violence and cheesy dubs

It's got some really excellent action, designs, and concepts, but I don't really remember it being all that special story wise or anything.

If you're a fan of cool robots being cool robots, you'll probably have a good time.

I honestly can't decide between that and Bubblegum Crisis as to which I would say is my favorite OVA series.

I've enjoyed Gall Force ever since I first watched Eternal Story on the Sci-Fi Channel's Saturday Anime block, though I took to BGC quickly when I first got into it a couple years back.

Also this series is fucking great. I was expecting a distanced historical story like LOTGH but instead I actually got an engaging plot from the get go.

Also the VOTOMS kind of look stuppid if you just see like a screenshot somewhere but they look awesome when actually animated in the show.

It's so eerie and pretty. I like the dub too, some people think that it goes to complete crap towards the end but I like it. It feels surreal and otherworldly.

Nice dubtrips, and I think that the tone is what really gives not just an OVA, but pretty much any piece of art that special lasting appeal. If I truly love something I appreciate it more through feeling than thought.

Genocyber's bizarre anti-humanist themes are still almost completely unique in science-fiction and there's something about the execution that complements it perfectly. It seems like such a stupid story on paper but it really does manage to feel tragic every time I watch it. Not many /m/ related things really get me on that level, it's probably just Genocyber, Ideon and Royal Space Force.

Broaden your horizons. Somehow, it seems like you haven't done a lot of looking for anime that caters to your taste. To disagree with your opinion, I'd also say realism is something near on wholly irrelevant to a genre which "realistically" would not exist, period.

Read the book. The OVA's more of a homage than an adaption. It's nice to see what they did with it but it's too different to be a substitute. It feels more like they wanted to create something /m/ themed and decided to paint it Starship Troopers rather than make a true adaption but it's still kind of neat.
