I think it was, but that's probably because I have no love for classic Mazinger, especially after I watched the Kaiser OVA. Not that I thought the OVA was bad, but it wasn't something I'd watch twice, and if that's the best distillation of classic Mazinger I can experience, then consider me uninterested in shoveling through 98 episodes of Kouji being a dick and ugly Toei redesigns.
