geeze your attention span is weak. this is exactly the same sort of reaction for Gundam 00 S1.

No, attention span has nothing to do with this. Attention span would be
>Why are they doing this again?
>Why did they change sides?
>Wait I thought Gjallarhorn was bad?
>Why are they allying with Jupiter now they tried to kill them last episode?

The show is boring exactly because we ARE paying attention, and what happens is extremely dull and boring. After nearly every episode I find myself thinking "Wait, that's it? Did they just waste 20 minutes on basically nothing? Again?" The people with short attention spans are the people who find this drivel entertaining - because they don't realise the exact same things are being said over and over and over and over and over and over again.
>>
>>13557172
That Mika's pic: it looks like the hand belongs to Orga and he is trying to stand up while Mika is checking if Orga has a fever.

-Chad and Dante are being happy and Akihiro is being serious, Shino is teasing someone - most likely Orga
-Takaki is scolding Ride Mass
>>
>>13558361
Yeah like i just get the feeling its assuming we're not paying attention? So its taking extra steps to hold our hands and make sure following along. I mean i dont mind a slow pace and more focus on character interaction, its just it can be tedious having the same things explained to you again and again. Its just needs to cut the fluff. just a bit worried because theirs ony 25/26 episodes
>>
>>13559403
Yeah I've been saying this since episode 3. They either need to step their game up soon, or things are going to end up being either rushed as fuck in the end or it's never really going to "get going" and stay lukewarm the whole way through.

This. I feel like I could just watch this while building gunpla and still understand everything. It is very slow, repetitive and gives little interesting to latch onto and think about

I disagree that every episode has nothing happen, but too many do and they have a habit of being in a row which cements the idea

He admitted he had no idea what was going on or who Kudelia exactly was, when he was in the fucking room when these were all explained and they discussed how they would act on this

>>
>>13562289
I don't know why you guys don't like exposition or plot progression. Are you literally only here for the fights?
>>
>>13562328
yes

it's all just setups and no payoff.
no drama, but dry fluff.
need more tits, if no fights.
>>
>>13562319
You're blowing it out of proportion.
The way the scene went it's clear that he didn't get the larger context of what was going on.

The simplistic notion that Kudelia is for Mars independence and that Gjallarhorn wants to silence her because of that was probably clear to him.
But as seen by Naze's the matter is a little more difficult than Gjallarhorn just being colonial lords.
In fact it's very likely that they don't actually have much direct benefit from controlling Mars.
It's the fact that Kudelia is directly defying them and wants to speak to the economic blocks directly is what worries them.
>>
>>13562328
>exposition
Cause it is a very lazy way to tell a story and when it is information being repeated it is even worse

>plot progression.
Barely. Since we found out that Mars wants independence from earth and the Jewess is trying to do that we have barely got anywhere. Bad guys want to stop it and there was a war ages ago. That is all in episode 1

8 episodes into a 25 episode show and all that has been added is the bad guys fought in that war and there is a mafia of some kind. If the characterisation was any good this would be fine but they are also weak as fuck
>>
>>13562334
>The way the scene went it's clear that he didn't get the larger context
When was that clear in early scenes when he was discussing plans with everyone else? He is at every meeting and even talks at them and is there to hear others explaining the situation

It was not made clear. They made him stupid for a scene to give a reason for exposition
>>
>>13562328
what fights?
>>
>>13562349
You're retarded.

This is the first time anybody went into any detail on WHY Gjallarhorn was so hardcore against Kudelia.
Because if they were actually enforcing the interests of the Economic Blocks of Earth, there wouldn't be any reason not to let her talk to them.
But since we now know that they're trying to keep their thumb on both Mars and Earth, it'd be some bad shit to let them converse.

This is something the viewer didn't know, so why should Eugene?
>>
>>13562376
Those things that take up almost every second or third episode.
>>
>>13562377
>WHY Gjallarhorn was so hardcore against Kudelia.
No it isn't. It adds another part to it but we already new they didn't want to lose control of Mars

Plus he didn't just not get that bit, he said he didn't get any of it or why she was important. That part hasn't changed and had been explained multiple times
>>
>>13562376
It's those parts where the animation gets really bad and then for a second sort of good

>It's wonderful seeing a Gundam series that's actually brave enough to tread a new path instead of just rehashing the earlier entries, or just making a shonen battle series in Gundam paint.

>4.5/5 for this episode (rounded up to 5/5).

>When I say "a new path", I mean in terms of both narrative and pacing. This is the only Gundam series other than Turn A that has the confidence to tell its story without relying on constant mecha battles as a crutch.

>In the case of G-Reco, they decided "crutches are better than legs". Then they chopped off its lower legs, jammed a crutch into each of its knees, and it somehow managed to amble around for 26 episodes until it (inevitably) fell flat on its face.

I>BO is also the first Gundam series in a while that's progressively building up and humanizing its cast, instead of progressively reducing them to cardboard cutouts while deifying the main character. SEED (Kira Yamato) and 00 (Setsuna F. Seiei) being the prime examples of that.

Did she not make up her mind 5 episodes ago?

I wonder what point in production they realised she had nothing to do for the first half of the show

>>13566831

5 episodes ago no-one had raised the explicit possibility that her actions had a high probability of starting a war. At the time she was deciding to have Tekkadan escort her to Earth despite the danger they might face because they were okay with it and she should respect that. Here she's confirming that it's worth risking a war to get what she wants for Mars because she knows it's worth the risk and doesn't want to waste the lives that she's already cost.

And she knew that already. Or did she think they attacked the base on Mars for fun?
>>
>>13566851
>>Are telling me she never opened a History Book?

Also she should have realized that her side would be the underdog.
>>
>>13566851

> Are you telling me she never opened a history book

Are you telling me that anyone giving speeches about economic equality should explicitly expect they're setting the stage for a war despite the fact that's not a historically accurate view of events? It sometimes does happen, but it often doesn't. She didn't know that it was a possibility because she wasn't aware of just how much control Gjallarhorn could lose with her actions.

> Or did she think they attacked the base on Mars for fun?

As far as she knew it was just a retaliatory action by the Mars branch and nothing more. She knew escaping had upset them but didn't figure they'd ever be doing more than perhaps sending some small groups like the inspectors after them since it wouldn't be worth more than that and certainly not worth starting a war over. Now that someone has made clear that she's starting to undercut their power by conducting negotiations that do not involve them and consequentially downplays their power and usefulness on the world stage it's much more obvious why they'd be after her and that they'd be willing to do a lot more to prevent her from doing what she wants than sending some groups to cover over a bit of political embarrassment.
>>
>>13566851
>>13566848
It really isn't.

How should she know that Gjallarhorn would go so far?

This thing started out with her just wanting some bodyguards to escort her for a conference on Earth.

Then she realized that she's in some real fucking danger and the GH is willing to send entire platoons after her.

That's something she had to digest.
But she still probably thought that once she reached earth and held her speeches and meetings, Gjallarhorn would throw the towel and seize their aggressions.

However the Taiwaz guys put the whole thing into perspective. Gjallarhorn is basically controlling the economic blocks at this point, not the other way around, so they can't just yank their leash once this blows over.
Furthermore, openly challenging Gjallarhorn's hold over Mars and Earth could very well lead to an armed, galactic conflict.

These are all things Kudelia didn't really know since she's an idealistic, red planet bumpkin that thought that all it took would be some diplomacy.

Oh, yeah, so she thinks she is going to strip NotTitans of one of their territories with good words and the power of love.

She should know that given her position

>>13566878

Cause they are a military organisation that makes it's money by having this control. She knew she would be attacked which is why she got the orphans in the first place. She therefore knew they would take military action against her

>That's something she had to digest.
She didn't digest it, she was told. It had aparently never come across her mind until she was told just them

Kudelia seems to just be an idiot for the plot

She wasn't aware that the notTitans were the ones in actual control of those places prior to this point, since publicly they're just a security company who negotiates deals not the real power behind the powers. As such, how is she supposed to know she's endangering their stanglehold?

It feels like Okada really liked Bright and wanted to make the captain important and focus on the burden of leadership too.

Sometimes I wish I wasnt banned from MAL forums. The cast is almost dead flat with as many one note characters as G-Reco so far. What exactly is so humanizing about the guy who shouts UMAAAAAAI every other episode? He has about as much characterization as fucking Happa.
The worst has to be Kudelia who's nothing but a typical gundam peace princess with generic anime cliche's brazenly tacked on to cover for her complete lack of presence up until this episode. We wouldn't even know what exactly she was going to Earth for other than the ever vague "negotiations for Mars independence!" until Yakuza Don-Corleone said as much.

IBO has next to no world building, the characters are moronic for the narratives sake(the only person I'll accept asking shit they should already know is Ride and anyone younger than him). The villains are all mustache twirling caricatures of typical early episode gundam antagonists just to hammer home the point that adults are shit, not even Zeta was this obnoxious.
There's just nothing to take away from the show because it leaves nothing open to the viewers interpretation. Up until this episode it was Mika and Orga jerking each other off while they Penelope Pitstop their way out of getting completely stomped but hey it doesnt have a convenient super weapon or feature so it's not the same thing!

Watching Keith provide for the Baker's daughter and eventually expand a tiny town bakery so he could profit off both sides in Turn A Gundam was more interesting than the first 8 episodes of IBO.

I don't fucking care that has nothing to do with IBO's cast being just as one dimensional.

Noredo didn't volunteer to join the Megafauna and is borderline useless until she seizes the G-Lucifer with Manny, Atra volunteered to join Tekkadan. Aida is proactive and steers the plot of G-Reco, where as Kudelia is shoved into the background and doesn't have a very interesting character other than a few standard anime cliches.

But yeah, battle accolades are the only defining point of someones character that's totally what I was getting on about with Kudelia. My entire problem with her is that she and Atra arent in the Graze tag teaming the Chocolate Man.

Atra has bonded with Kudelia and constantly helps her out, it's not the same as retard wrangling, but it's close.
And Atra has a lot of interaction with the Tekkadan boys, usually helping to keep the morale up, as seen when she delivered food.
Her and Mika also have a fully formed bond, which the show is probably going to go in detail of next episode.

Also I never liked how superfluous Noredo felt. Like she had to actively seek out places to help instead of being integrated into the crew full with a position of her own. Atra cooks and cooks and cooks some more because she's the goshdarn cook. That's her job, she's not gonna man the aftside turret.

IBO isn't about seeking a place for yourself. It's about securing and maintaining it. Only Kudelia seems to be unsure about how she fits in.
Which is natural, considering she's lived a privileged childhood while everyone else in the cast had to grow up fast to survive.

We've already seen that Atra serves as a humanizing element in Mika's life and somebody he considers to be untainted and wants to protect.

The fact that she bonded with Kudelia is also surprisingly nice, considering everyone thought they'd be romantic rivals

So what?
You said Noredo had to seek a place, implying she was irrelevant and uselles, but I just showed you that it is just part of Tomino being Tomino and Tomino stressing AGAIN what he has been trying to saying for more than 3 decades.
By your logic Frau, Sayla and Fa are also superfluous because they were moving from place to place trying to be useful.
That is simply bullshit.

>The fact that she bonded with Kudelia is also surprisingly nice
It is like the most obvious development. You said she is the humanizing element, whom was Kudelia supposed to bond with? The Gundam frame?
>>
>>13569961
>>Atra told to get a man and start farting babies out quick even if loads of other women fuck him
That was ridiculous.
They basically told her to shut the fuck up, cook and make babies. That is as far as her life will go.
So much for emancipation.
>>
>>13569990
I'm not one to get all muh womens but it really stood out. It's fine for that angle to be there but I want to see more of a balance as well. The harem being pilots as well is good but then all they talk about is sex and having babies.

It would work if they came at it more I can be a strong woman and a wife (maybe if Kudelia seemed opposed to it as she thought it made her weak) but it just lacks that nuance. Instead it feels like or two main female characters are shown to be weak and good at girl jobs like cooking and teaching

>>
>>13569980
>By your logic Frau, Sayla and Fa are also superfluous because they were moving from place to place trying to be useful. That is simply bullshit.
Not really, considering that they all found their places. I didn't get the feeling with Noredo. Her involvement with anything seemed flimsy at best and that just made her not as strong as say Sayla, who had a very active stake in the entire conflict, had a job on the White Base bridge, before becoming a pilot.
Also, while I don't hate Fa, she's a really bad example of a character that primarily exists to be a waifu.

I also never liked how Tomino always had the primary girl double as surrogate mom for a few shitty kids.
It's pretty obvious that he prefers classic family dynamics to women making a different place in the world.
>>
>>13569990
>>13570008

That scene alone was a lot better and meaningful than 20 minutes of Atra being Atra.
>>
>>13570012
>Her involvement with anything seemed flimsy at best
>the primary girl double as surrogate mom for a few shitty kids.
Are you sure this isn't Atra you are talking about? The only difference it is it a lot of shitty kids and then a character straight up tells her be a mom
>>
>>13570019
> Atra kinda blew the conversation
That was just a joke though, and it was mostly to say that Atra chooses something that may not seem as good (Mika) over a possibly better looking product

The scene was still in line with pushing that whole bit, especially after the baby scene where Atra points out Kudeila finally looks happy now because babies. If anything that one was worse
>>
>>13570019
>by saying that bread can be pretty delicious
She was saying she would be fine with a simpler life/man too? She didn't really oppose the idea of being a baby-factory and a cook for the rest pf her life.
She also hasn't really any other quality but being the motherly-like character.
At least you could say Noredo was trying to get involved with everything she could. Not just being a mother to Raraiya, but also helping Bellri during his espionage for Cumpa.

>>13570012
>considering that they all found their places.
So did Noredo.
Did you miss that she was studying at the end?

>Her involvement with anything seemed flimsy at best
Opinions.

>who had a very active stake in the entire conflict, had a job on the White Base bridge, before becoming a pilot.
Different anime for different eras.
0079 was about WWII, G-Reco is about today. You can't ask Tomino to make another Sayla, because it doesn't make sense. Tomino wants kids to move past war and think about society. If they become good pilots or too much involved in wars, his point becomes meaningless.
That is why he keeps destroying the Gundams at the end of the wars, otherwise the pilots can't move on.
Also, we had very little attention to what Sayla wanted to do after the war, or her qualities outside the cockpit/communication room, despite the fact that she wanted to help people outside the battlefield too.

>she's a really bad example of a character that primarily exists to be a waifu.
As much as I dislike Fa, she wasn't there just to be there, like Atra. She always tried to get more involved.
>>
>>13570019
It's kinda telling that a grown, seemingly self-assured women felt the need to justify her place in the world in front of Atra.

Because what it seems to come down to, is that maybe she has doubts of her own, but it's too late to do anything about that. She just plays into her own delusion that being Naze's top bitch is enough for her.
Atra meanwhile still lives in a world of possibility. Not only can she have a man to herself if she so desires, she can also influence where she ends up at.

The conversation doesn't end with Atra accepting the advice, but with her poking holes into a stupid metaphor.
>>
>>13570038
>, is that maybe she has doubts of her own,
She seemed very confident about it all. Maybe if we saw her face twitch or something that could be supported but she keeps up the sassy attitude and smirk

The fact that she dropped the conversation, when it became clear Atra didn't even want to talk about it, is enough confirmation that this isn't Okada's gospel to women everywhere.

In fact she's been very good at not hitting you over the head with her opinions. It's also kinda telling that Kudelia or Fumitan weren't there for that conversation, I doubt they would have had any of it.
She still thinks Atra is young and naive enough to drink the kool-aid.

Yes you need confirmation on things and no that does not mean silly anime faces, something subtle work work. Otherwise you are just making the conversation what you want instead of what it is directly saying

>The fact that she dropped the conversation, when it became clear Atra didn't even want to talk about it, is enough confirmation that this isn't Okada's gospel to women everywhere.
No it isn't. A conversation ending doesn't make it wrong, especially cause Chocolate The Joy reiterates her point before the scene ends. Atra also doesn't disprove it she misses the point of the metaphor yet is happy she is told that she'd make a good wife. The part where she is straight up told you will make a good wife and she smiles and says really is very direct

> I doubt they would have had any of it.
Any other conversation that is telling Kudelia something she straight up agrees with, she has been incredibly suggestible

That picture really just confirms to me that most of the Tomino leading women were pretty boring.
>Fraw
Babysitter
>Fa
Babysitter, occasionally standing behind Kamille with a rolling pin and acting the nagging wife
>Elle
kind of an exception at the start, but ultimately had very little to stand out on, except settling for a lesser man.
>Shakti
Babysitter, scooting around on a battlefield
>Soochi
enormous cunt
>Noredo
emergency food supply.

The harem revelation made both her and everyone else kinda uncomfortable.

I doubt her opinion has changed.

Plus the "good wife" comment was her throwing the towel and dropping the matter. There's nothing bad about telling her she'll make a partner happy some day. It's a diplomatic answer and didn't reiterate the point.
Atra doesn't seem any closer to joining a harem than she was at the start of it.
This conversation didn't serve the point of giving the author a soapbox, it was mostly for the sake of character development.

These are different. Kudelia just blushing at it isn't not having any of it. And later we see with the babies she goes all AWWW and Atra points out that she is smiling for once. Motherhood and being a wife is not something that pushes her away, the shock reveal of a ship wide harem is a bit surprising for everyone

>was her throwing the towel and dropping the matter.
How is that at all? Her whole point was about being a wife and how she saw it, she says Atra would be a good one and Atra agrees and is happy at the statement. She misses the metaphor about a harem completely and in no way does Tits Mcgee seem unhappy about her position like you suggested earlier. Atra is still very much locked in to be a wife, cook and look after the little kids

You have got of the point being originally made now

that's one of the first bits of the conversation

Consider that Kudelia hasn't interacted with any of the Turbines directly since then.

She's weak willed, but she's educated and born into certain societal norms.
While I doubt she'd be confrontational on the matter, it'd be pretty clear that she'd just say a more agreeable version of "Thanks, but I'm not buying what you're selling."

And that'd be that.

You also have to consider the enormous differences in lifestyle between all of them, even though she's just started getting into politics, she's already the face of an entire movement.
That's not the sort of person you'd try to lecture on her lifestyle.

I remember how she threw a bitch fit about working with Zeon together with Katz and got her ass locked up.

She wasn't much of a pilot and had to look after Shinta and Kun.

She was a pilot for half the fucking series. What the hell are you on?
