he sucked because he had no gimmick in a show that all the Gundams had something that made them special
Wing - powerful long range and transforms, has feathers if we count EW
Deathscythe - he's got a scythe
Heavy Arms - armed to the teeth with guns and rockets
Sandrock - he's just got 2 sickle...
Shenlong/Altron - the chinese dragon one, even this one kinda sucks though. but not as bad as Sandrock

Quatre as a character was a lot better than Heero, Trowa, and Chang though
>>
>>13556239

How does Deathscythe's beam scythe count as something special (when Shenlong also has a beam blade on a stick), but Sandrock's two giant curved scimitars aren't enough to make it "stand out?"

And regarding Shenlong how the fuck does a robot with an extending flamethrower dragon head not have enough of a gimmick?

No, Deathscythe's gimmick was that it wasn't detectable on normal radar

Sandrock's gimmick was that it was low maintenance, durable, armored and had high mechanical strength.
There are SRW games where the Sandrock has armor on par or surpassing the Super Robots.
>>
>>13556271
None of them were detectable on radar. That was one of Gundanium's gimmicks. Deathscythe could jam radars with the Hyper Jammers.

On top of the hyper jammer, there's the fact that it's supposed to evoke the image of the classic reaper figures. (Which is good, because otherwise the Beam Scythe would be 100% WHY THE HELL DID YOU DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT instead of just 90%.)

I'd say he was the worst wing boy in terms of skill. He was captured and arrested every 5 episodes. and his only achievement was beating Heero/Trowa AIs and he said himself they're not close to the originals.

I don't know if you can really call Heavyarms that. The others sure, but Heavyarms was so heavily modified from the dropped design, it doesn't even look anything like it, anymore. In fact Trowa himself looks more like the thing because it was jester-themed.

>>13561369

They're all very heavily modified. The Wing really only shares the idea of using a gun and shield. It's not even the same kind of gun, given that the concept appears closer to a regular rifle while Wing has a cannon. There's some minor armor design nods, like the big screws on the shoulders but that's really about it. Sandrock just shares the idea of using a shotel and shield, and again, even that's not identical given the difference in the shield. The Deathscythe is probably the closest to the original design, since there's somewhat similar shoulders, chest and head but they're still not really the same.

Noin is god tier.

She survives in a grunt, in a series where grunts explode the moment a Gundam so much as appears.

The fact that she betrayed her comrades to side with the man she loved, all without screwing over her comrades or committing outright treason (like a certain 0083 character), makes her not just a great pilot but also a reasonably respectable character.
>>
>>13561892
>She survives in a grunt, in a series where grunts explode the moment a Gundam so much as appears.
Unsurprisingly grunts don't explode with a member of the cast in them, she's just as protected by plot armor as the rest of the cast. There is no instance where she ever seemed particularly skilled or talented in MS combat, not even in Endless Waltz where her fighting was basically standing stationary and firing off screen.

>The fact that she betrayed her comrades to side with the man she loved
Nothing about that makes her a good pilot or a good person

>>13562157
>good people don't care about their subordinates
No that makes her a good person, just saying that she'll betray an organization over a man doesn't make her a good person.
>interesting people betray those they care about
Actually that's true, it gives the audience something to speculate over. Why did she betray those she cares about, what other forces out there could make her come to this decision, does she have an ulterior motive? With her just fawning over Zechs is pretty cut and dry why she would leave OZ for him and it goes no deeper and ultimately just makes her flat as a character.
>>
>>13561892
>>13561932
>>13561984
>>13562117
>>13562157

Noin's an interesting character simply because of her loyalty, but it's marred by there being no real tangible consequences in the entirety of After Colony.

The only real strength Wing has is its mecha and character designs and it's political babble; her character falls flat because nothing really happens to her despite the choices she makes. Nothing happens to anybody. They make choices, but there's no consequences or changes.

They don't necessarily have to be bad consequences, but in the real world you can't just defect from militaries, stage coups, or have military affairs without being involved in some power struggles. We never see anything of the sort in Wing. Noin and the entire cast cease to be good characters and end up being 2-dimensional heroes, villains, and lovers.
>>
>>13562187
Not until the end is Noin's loyalty tested, its a good attribute for anyone but yeah if the loyalty is never tested, or there care no real consequences for that loyalty then its just hallow.
>>
>>13561892

Noin is shit tier. She's a named pilot who's working with the good guys so she was basically guaranteed to survive. She could have been piloting a cardboard box with the word mook written on it (and a Leo isn't much better than that) and she'd still have taken no damage through the show because that's Wing all over. Take any time a named pilot steps in to a Leo for instance: they go from shitboxes that explode if someone so much as glances at them in to tanky underdogs that could take a nuke on the nose and not even notice.

She never really did much of note in a fight and more importantly she was just flat and boring as a character. Her introduction sets the tone for her character and she never deviates. She literally counts off the number of days since she last saw Zechs and is never given any reason to deviate from or question that loyalty. Gato was boring for the same reason. Giving Gato some tits doesn't make him a better character. Loyal characters can be interesting and likable, but they need more than loyalty to be so. And honestly, Noin isn't even loyal, she's just flat out codependent. Which is worse.

In other words, you're shitting on her because she's not a stronk independent womyn who doesn't need no man.

I'd say that's actually a good thing, because a codependent Gato with tits is better than an overzealous Gato without them.

Pic related.

Noin is literally flawless. She's everything you could ever want in an MC.

Rather than a Mary Sue, Noin's conventionally skilled and reasonably developed.

I guess that explains why people only hate her because there's nothing to hate about her, but that's still a shitty reason to dislike a character.
>>
>>13562543

> joined the military as a career soldier instead of falling into the cockpit of a super prototype
> starts off a shit tier scrub
> gets rekt by a more skilled pilot in a super weapon
> watches him demolish her comrades, students and mobile suits
> uses the tragedy and humiliation as motivation to GIT GUD
> lets go of her grudge and attains meikyou shisui levels of zen

Almost none of that is true. Zechs makes it clear in her introductory episode that Noin was actually better than him at the academy and deliberately fouled her tests so that she was second instead of first to make Zechs look good. She's already a lieutenant when Zechs comes calling and leading her own squad, which Wufei wipes out using a bomb. She chases him in an aries and he uses flashbangs to escape after berating her, not a super weapon. She didn't use it as motivation to GIT GUD, she was pretty good all along and that incident changed little to nothing. She wants to go with Zechs for revenge but quickly drops that.

> storms a base
> rescues the damsel

If by storming a base you mean she planted some bombs just inside the wall, then scaled the outer wall, broke a window and freed Sally - then yea, I guess she stormed a base. The two of them then jump out a window and drive away from the base's perimeter since they were never deep inside of it. It's cool, but most of the cast do stuff like that at some point in the show, from the Gundam cast through Zechs, Trieze and even Sally herself. It's just how Wing rolls.
>>
>>13563102

> saves the bumbling MCs

I take it you mean Heero here? Who Quatre had actually just rescued a second earlier and who had been doing a good job holding out in a Leo even before that - though he was certainly on the way out eventually without at least Quatre's help. All Noin does to rescue them is drop the Wing's buster rifle from overhead and destroy two Virgos. Neither Heero or Quatre were what I'd call bumbling here, but I mean, you're trying to make Noin look impressive so I suppose it's no surprise you try to cast everyone else in a bad light so she looks better.

> kills the nigh invulnerable grunts with just a plane

Except she kills the nigh invulnerable grunts using lasers that ignore their beam shields and cut through their armor like butter. Her lasers make shorter work of them than most Gundam weapons, even later in the show. And she does it all using (a) surprise and (b) air superiority since she's flying a supersonic plane high in the air while the grunts are just a computer program advancing in a line. Not exactly the most impressive kills ever seeing as how there was literally no effort in beyond aiming.

> always uses her best judgment

What an empty statement. Everyone uses their best judgement. Even when you decide to do something that you know is not the best choice available, you always do so for what you think is a good reason and are making it as your best judgement for you in that situation.
>>
>>13563108

> never uses duty or orders as an excuse to be a raging cunt
> doesn't cut herself on edge for edge's sake

More empty statements. You don't get points for what you're not, only what you are.

> isn't a special snowflake with super powers, newtype magic or martial arts ninjutsu

So? Who cares what talents and powers someone is born with or attains so much as what they do with them or how those things are written?

> stays a grunt pilot throughout the entire series

So basically you like her because she's a grunt and it doesn't matter how she's written, that's what I'm getting here.

> still gets shit on by neo-/m/ because she also gets laid

An hilarious statement given that people on /m/ have been shitting on her character for years and she also never definitely got laid. You might think she did, but that's just your reading of things, not something within the actual show or movie.

> Noin is literally flawless

I could care less. Kira is flawless too. That doesn't make him a good or interesting character.

> She's everything you could ever want in an MC

Except interesting, well written or even cool given how subservient she is to Zechs.

> Rather than a Mary Sue

I'm quoting you here:

> Noin is literally flawless

You just said she was flawless and certainly the cast seems to love her for no real reason, sounds like a Mary Sue to me.

> Noin's [...]reasonably developed

No, she isn't. She's not at all developed as a character in the entire show. She doesn't grow or change at any point, nor does she ever display any real personality beyond adulation for Zechs. It's her single defining trait. It's how she's introduced in the tv show and it's there in her final moments in the movie too.
