That's one thing that has been bugging me a lot in this series so far. Even though Takeru makes a big deal about wanting to take charge and determine his own destiny for his life, he and Akari are both entirely dependent on Sage to direct them around.

Which is almost certainly intentional. Hell, last week we saw Takeru making a journal/guidebook to try and piece together where to collect the Eyecons and that got thrown in the trash.

As a toy designer myself, I feel like there's something lazy about the Ghost drivers design, specifically about the way the eyecons are implemented. With previous collectibles, it felt like the gadget was an intentional and integral part of the design and functionality, they acted like the centerpiece of the toy. With this, it almost feels like the method for putting the eyecons in was mostly an after thought. They wanted it to look like a ghost, and they wanted it to have a blinking eye, but actually slotting the eye into the toy feels poorly thought out. Yeah, just split the whole thing open and plop it in there like an old VHS tape, whatever. There's little finesse to it and it makes the opening and closing function feel disjointed. Looking down at it, it looks like some lame vacationer's fanny-pack more than a cool superhero device. I'm not surprised one of the movie preorder bonuses was an actual fanny-pack.

I dunno, maybe they were on a tight schedule and there wasn't any better way to do it. Or maybe it really was an after thought, and they just saved time but getting it done. I've often been inspired by the various gadgets and weapons in toku, it was a big part of what lead me to this job in the first place, but I can't help but feel a little disappointed by this seasons driver. On the plus side, I really like the sword at least.

I'm sure someone has a webm of it, but there was a scene in the movie where Takatora essentially transformed backwards. Normally the suit doesn't appear until metal fruit drops, but in the film he put on a driver and got the suit suit to appear first, giving him time to block a hit and deliver a heroic speech helmetless until the fruit did drop.

The outer casing is definitely one of my least favorite design elements, it's way too Charlie-Brown-sheet-ghost. It's especially disheartening when you see how cool it looks without that out casing.

I think if they had foregone the outer casing and instead just used this, it would have been fine. If they really needed to add some sheet-ghost style to the design, just put it around the edges of this face plate.
