I understand that she was falling for Kou and if he killed Gato she'd never be able to forgive him. A lot of /m/ hates her and blames her as if she actually helped with Operation Stardust in some way. Actually Gato said that it's already too late to stop the colony from falling before Kou even came in.
Being in love is not a rational thing. Furthermore consider that nothing went wrong between her and Gato, he just disappeared one day. That kind of thing makes you long for someone for a really long time, and when that person comes back into your life it's really hard to just stand there and watch your new almost-boyfriend kill them, even if your old flame is doing something wicked. She didn't help Gato's plan, and she didn't really prolong his life for more than a half hour. What she did do was preserve the possibility of being able to love Kou, which would have been impossible if she'd seen him kill "the one that got away".

Look at how the two Gundam units are oriented, and where the catwalks are that Nina would have been standing on while doing Unit 01 maintenance. It's above and to the side. Her view of the cockpit of Unit 02 is completely obscured. If you watch the video, you'll see that she only rushes to the end of the catwalk to lean over and see what's going on only after Gato had gotten into the Gundam - the events in question take place at about the 20 min mark:

He had one short conversation with Kou, confirming that the nuke had been loaded in, and then made a beeline for the cockpit. She didn't even notice anyone new was there, engrossed in her work, until someone started moving the lift. You also have to remember, they're in this giant hanger, and she's doing a bunch of maintanance work. And at the very least, they're more than double 30 ft away, since most Gundams are ~60 feet tall. So in short, you're full of shit.

She's not just shitting on Kou here. She's shitting all over the attempts of everyone on the Albion, and Lucette, "her friend" that died in order to let Kou get his hands on that Gundam to accomplish the task that she's in the middle of stopping. She may as well have just been a Zeon spy.

When Kou walks in on Gato in the control room, Gato's plan is already complete and there's no stopping it. So by the time Nina intervenes, it's not like she's enabling the colony drop, it's going to happen regardless of what any of them do after that. Your analogy is completely false. The only thing she stopped was Kou murdering Gato in cold blood for no reason, since doing so wouldn't have stopped the colony drop at that point.

I'm not mad at her actions, I'm mad that she didn't have any repercussions. If the series ended with Kou shooting her for treason when they met again then breaking down crying over her dead body the ending would have been perfect.

The first few episodes of Stardust Memory and its Top Gun atmosphere more than make up for Nina's retarded character development.

Unicorn had great animation, mecha, and characters. The story they really fucked up with laplace's box though, and that ending while interesting was not really "Gundam".

08th MS team was just bad, the main story was the Cyber Newtype love story which has been done to death in Gundam already, there's only one good fight in the whole OVA, and the final episode is just not wanted or needed.

The NA granary was always the intended target. When Kou walks in on Gato to stop him, he remarks that he's already made the final course corrections, and nothing anyone does after that point changes the course that the colony is on.

The Feds assumed Jaburo was the target, because they're self-important, and egotistical, and they remember the events of the OYW (and how they tried to do that back then and failed) and assume the 'revenge' the Delaz Fleet wanted was directly against them. Instead, their plan was much more insidious and actually went to furthering Zeon's original muh ideals of spacenoid independence and moving all of humanity to the stars, by destroying the NA granary, creating a food shortage on Earth, and requiring more people to emigrate to space and/or work more in hand with the colonies as a consequence.

Destroying Jaburo wouldn't have actually amounted to much (see Zeta for proof) and hitting the ocean (and I assume causing a giant tidal wave) wouldn't have done much either other than killing a bunch of innocent civilians - which doesn't really seem like the Delaz Fleet's MO.

Let me put this in a way you can understand.

Gato is the man that they have been chasing the entire series. From the very first episode, the have had reason to be after Gato, and it's grown more from just him stealing a Gundam. He is one of the cornerstones of a Zeon resurrection., and is in a plot to overthrow the Earth Federation.

He PERSONALLY blew up 2/3rds of the Federation Space Fleet so his comrades could continue Operation Stardust, and he went on to help aid in a colony drop. In fact, he showed up in person to correct the course so nobody else could stop it. He has a large list of crimes under his bet (some of those even war crimes, you're not allowed to use nukes like that)

Nina knows what the Albion's crew has been through. She knows that people have died over the course of this journey to stop this very event. Even her supposed good friend died in order to allow them a mobile suit that would help on this long battle ahead.
She knew that everyone on the Albion said "this is it. We HAVE to get from X to Y to stop this from occurring"

Despite all of that, Nina shows up at Z point as Gato is finalizing the movements off his attempt at a COLONY DROP, and when Kou shows up to shoot him, she holds Kou up and allows Gato to escape. She PERSONALLY helps him to escape.

Now if you were saying that Nina was saying that Kou shouldn't shoot Gato because he should be brought to justice before a trial, then you might have a good point, but that's not what you're doing. Nina didn't stop Kou because she didn't want him to become a murderer, she didn't stop him because it was the right thing to do, she did it because she still had feelings for Gato

So despite all that's happened with her journey on the Albion, whatever happened between her and Kou, all that's going on right now and the weight and consequences of what's going to happen, Nina showed up specifically because her feelings for Gato were still that strong, and she didn't want to see him get hurt.
It's like if you were traveling with someone who was uncovering your ex's secret attempts at a terrorist plot that will see to it that hundreds of people will be hurt, and when the time comes to confront that ex, in the middle of seeing their plot through you tackle the other person and allow your ex to escape.

Even if you toss out the idea of her feelings for Kou, her travels on the Albion, the fact of the matter is that Gato is in the middle of making sure his terrible plot succeeds, and Nina shows up to stop the man trying to stop him because she still cares for Gato

There has to be a point in time when you have to either admit or realize when a loved one is doing something wrong, and Nina refused to make that choice.
