Turn-A Gundam thread

Turn A and Turn X had nanomachine sex and it didn't turn out well.

Gym and Loran both heavily damage each other's suits as the moonlight butterfly is active causing it to go out of control. Gym tries to continue it on foot but because the moonlight butterfly is going haywire close by it's sending out tendrils searching for nearby technology. It latches on to the swords. Loran lets his go while Gym refuses to let go of his (i.e. let go of war), which results in him being dragged in to the cocoon the moonlight butterfly is forming around the two units as they each try to eat the other, including each other's nanomachines.

It's probably meant to symbolize how war consumes those who live for battle and each side in a war gets lost in the other or something. On it's own though it's just the two units eating each other since they each perfectly neutralize the other.

Also, Miashei is awesome. As is Lily.

The ending was also pretty good, this time around Tomino didn't kill half the cast either so that's good. Is there a website or something that shows references in the show to older Gundam shows? I want to see what I might have missed.

Fan theory is they're both repairing themselves and their pilot (fridge horror for Gym) but are trapped underneath the rock the Moonlight Butterfly made. So they are salvageable but it't take some effort to do so and you imagine the nations of the world would work to prevent them being excavated. We know some of the tech is recovered as the G-Lucifer has a Moonlight Butterfly

When Agrippa Maintainer narrated that whole story, it sounded like he was saying colonies went interstellar because of that final, many-hundreds-of-years-long war. And so if the Turn X was produced by not just humans who'd left the solar system, but those humans Agrippa mentioned, then the start of the war would predate the Turn X's creation. With that understanding, I figured that the Turn A's development initiated merely the final phase of the war. Hm, that sounds pedantic.

It'd also be kind of silly for a lone mobile suit to drift from one star to another within mere centuries.

The fat guy zoomed in to close in the screen frightening the shit out of Joseph is from ZZ. There are small cameos of Fyuunsaki and the Nether Gundam. Kapool is from ZZ too. Corin has a flashback to seeing Wing Gundam. Loran has a manuel like the original Gundam. All the footage of Black History are clips from previous Gundam shows. Same for the opening. The rest are stuff like Harry being a Char, but that happens in most Gundam shows so it's kind of obvious.

That guy is talking out of his asshole. G Reco should take place way before Turn A. Turn A is supposed to be the last in the series. The G-Lucifer does emit something that looks like a moonlight butterfly, which I think is an intention reference, but it is never called that in the show.

Oh shit I never saw that. It sounds like something an anon would make up. It sort of makes sense though. Turn A was supposed to be the end of Gundam and was Tomino's last Gundam, so it makes sense that all the old series would go into it. So it sort of makes sense that Tomino's newest series would take place after.

I was hunting around for something else in the final episodes and saw this, which I think is a somewhat interesting tidbit of conversation on Gym's part, considering the debate about the difference between anime Turn-A and manual Turn-A. Of course, it's "true state" could be anything, but still interesting to note that even after Gym and the Moonrace engineers tune up the Turn-A to the point that Joseph found it much easier to use and was able to use some weapons that may not have been usable before (the torso cannons) along with making the Moonlight Butterfly easier to use Gym thinks it's still not back at it's true state. I wonder did he think he could have done it with more time, or did he think even his people didn't have the abilities/tools necessary?

A few things I thought of today.

1. The romance between Gavanne and Sochie really gave across the point that romance during war time isn't as ideal as people portray it and how the harsh reality of war affects how close two people can get near each other in a small period of time. That one was more obvious though.

2. I hate how even by the end of the show no one really trusted Loran. I could understand most of the militia men which were following Guin but characters like Joseph managed to piss me off in a way. He's dating a moonrace girl, impregnates her and even by that point he's still prejudiced against them. And Loran did enough to prove himself and his loyalty.

3.Corin's Kapool is way way more badass than any Kapool has the right to be.

I think Joseph distrusted him more because he was a childhood friend of Fran's and the pilot of the Turn-A, the symbol and hero of the war than because he was a Moonrace person specifically. He was jealous of Loran really, and wanted to prove to himself and to Fran that he was more than Loran, so he attempted to steal the Turn-A to show he could be a greater pilot than Loran to Fran. Hence why when he attacks the Turn-X in it, the first thing he calls out when he thinks is won is whether Fran has seen it.

Lily, Sid, Gavane and the rest of his Suicide Corp and quite a few others do trust Loran though on the other hand.

It also makes sense for Turn-A to take place after G-Reco in a bunch of other places though. Especially the fact that the setting and plot for G-Reco appear to be lifted almost whole-sale from Tomino's notes for Turn-A's backstory that were printed in an art book more than a decade ago.

That's because it was intended like so. Then other people continued the franchise after him, but since they did a piss-poor job at it, Tomino decided to make a series again.

The whole concept of taboo makes a lot of sense considering it takes place after Turn A too. They are trying as much as possible to stop another UC from happening.

They should have had a Sumo or Kapool shown in that episode with all the old UC suits though. There's a Turn A logo on a manuel and the G Lucifer actually shows her moonlight butterfly too.

On the other hand Turn-A isn't actually necessary to explain the taboo and putting it in there seems to me a bit like inserting 0083 in between 0079 and Zeta to explain something that doesn't need explaining. G-Reco explains the taboo adequately on it's own: UC was just a long series of shitty wars and eventually the Spacenoids won and imposed technological dependency on the Earthnoids to prevent it happening again. That works. No Moonlight Butterfly mentioned or necessary. And things make sense just as much with G-Reco coming before Turn-A and the orbital elevator eventually becoming the legend of the Ades tree and so on.

It only becomes more weird when you look at the dates from the respective shows, since Turn-A puts UC as being 10, 000 years ago while G-Reco puts it around a thousand even in pre-release material. Not to mention that Towasanga has been inhabited for 2, 000 years according to G-Reco - so the Moonrace being so despondent and isolated and yearning for Earth but completely missing the existence of the big asteroid that periodically encircled them is just plain weird.

Yea, you can come up with reasons why those things would make sense if G-Reco took place after Turn-A, but they plainly make more sense assuming it takes place before it not after. What annoys me though honestly isn't the idea that it happens in that order, it's that Tomino acted like it made perfect sense and that anyone should ever think otherwise. Especially getting his sock-puppet to echo him and act amused anyone would ever believe otherwise. That's just being a dick.
