Will post this in every Xephon thead

First time through so much of RahXephon was a bit weird and creepy. Second time through most of it was adorable. Some of it was still weird and creepy.

That one episode is still the saddest goddamned shit.

The series was weird and dreamlike the first time around, but incredibly comfy on rewatches for the exact same reasons.

That episode fucks me up every time.

I really oughta get the PS2 game guide I have scanned at one point.

The show may have had it's problems but damn if it wasn't an interesting ride. I enjoyed every minute of it.

I'm ashamed to admit it's one of my favorite shows of all time.

Always thought the mechanical designs and the set pieces for this show were really well done. Some of the environments were 2comfy4me.
>>
Glad to see other RahXephon fans here.

I remember back in 2002 when I first saw this series and thought it invoked a lot of great feelings. I rewatched it again in 2009 and it still holds up.

Frankly, I never understood why Evangelion gets more attention than RahXephon. The cast, the world design, and the conclusion were more interesting to me.
>>
It was Evangelion with a happier ending.

Which was exactly what I wanted.
>>
I fell in love with this show back in 2002 when I saw a clip of Rah trashing some golem. It took me literally 6 freaking years to finally being able to watch the series. I loved every second of it.

Eva's much better and consistent, that's why. RahXephon is decent in its own right. Doesn't help that even RahXephon fans can't help but mention Eva when discussing the show.

There's also the fact that the director has said RahXephon is suppose to be a modern day Brave Raideen.

>and the conclusion were more interesting to me.

Ehhhhh...

All the chaos that ensued felt mostly like shock value to me given how abruptly its happy ending occurs out of all that.

I enjoyed RahXephon, but as a whole I didn't find the show nearly memorable enough to be one of my favorites.
>>
>>13526074
I can leave "much better" to your personal preference and taste but Eva is definitely not more consistent than RahXephon.

And more coherent
>>
>>13527079

RahXephon has one great episode, you know the one, and otherwise varies from decent to mediocre. Eva obviously varies in quality, but it's a better track record than that.

>>13529612

Not really.
>>
RahXephon's story is more consistent because its ending was decided first, and the story was created to reach that point. This means everything in the story, every element of every episode, is meant to lead to that cliff, that dress, and that girl.

Evangelion never had that luxury because that is simply not how Anno worked. We are not sure Anno himself even know how his shows are suppose to end until he gets there.
>>
>>13529681

Building up to specific climax doesn't imply every episode was nearly as good as the other, which is what's being talked about. Your argument makes zero sense with that in mind.

Third Impact was definitely the end game, the destination was just unclear.
>>
>>13529638
If you say so. There wasn't anything about Evangelion that I found to be incoherent. There are finer points about the FAR and the nature of Adam/Lilith that don't get mentioned because they're irrelevant to the story at hand, but the story itself is coherent:

>There are a bunch of dudes who want to kill off their competition and then initiate the next evolution of mankind. Gendou is working with them for his own ends. The characters go through psychoanalysis throughout the show.

I honestly have never figured out why people state that the show is incoherent. There isn't anything that happens in the show that comes out of left field or doesn't follow the logic of what preceded it.
>>
>>13529681
>We are not sure Anno himself even know how his shows are suppose to end until he gets there
With regard to Eva TV, he specifically didn't even know how he wanted it to end WHEN he got there. That bizarre ending was never the result of the money running out or whatever other bullshit people spew to try and hold up the show's artistic genius, it was Anno wasting time the whole while and rewriting everything constantly until he just had to put something down to make it to air.
>>
>>13529709
>every episode was nearly as good as the other, which is what's being talked about
That's not what "consistent" suggests. You can have lots of episodes of similar quality even when they're completely unlike each other.
>>
>>13529723

I thought you meant RahXephon was more coherent than EVA. In terms of a uniting theme that makes the work whole, I think EVA does a better job of expressing it.

RahXephon's a show I have to rewatch, but I do not remember a single episode being anywhere as memorable as episode 19. The others are a collage of individual moments taped together.

>>13529763

It's what I meant and usually what people mean when they bring it up when talking of a tv show unless it has additional qualifiers.

My bad for not clarifying my initial statement. And yea, as much as I like RahXephon, I feel like it has a lot of ideas and stuff going on, but nothing that's designed as one structured narrative, so you have a lot of fat that could have been cut out.
>>
>>13529755
>With regard to Eva TV, he specifically didn't even know how he wanted it to end WHEN he got there.
It isn't just Anno. Sadamoto was told by Anno he is permitted to end the manga version in any way he wanted, but he still ended up with the ending of the End of Evangelion. Sadamoto himself certainly had no idea how the manga was going to end, himself. Until years later
>>
>>13508504

RahXephon sucked. It had a few good parts, but was such an audacious Eva ripoff it just made me rage.
>>
RahXephon was more consistent in the sense that it knew to where was going from the start. The thing is that the episodes where really unconnected to the main plot line except for ambiguous hints and statements here and there. It has one really memorable episode, but that's it.

I love RahXephon more than I love Eva, but the latter had more memorable episodes and was better at connecting its random hints and ambiguous statements to its ending.
