I haven't even properly watched it, but I can unironically say the ending is one of the best pieces of cinema I've ever seen.

this would probably work great for suit stuff if you could get around them passing out instantly from heat, falling off the platform, and dying

No, man, Crash and Burn is that other movie. The one where the build up the giant robot all movie and then all it does is pick up a girder, which breaks its arm and kills it.
>>
Should I actually watch this? Whenever I see people praise it, it always seems to be tongue-in-cheek
>>
>>13517006
the non-robot parts are campy fun, the robot parts are really fucking great

Crash and burn is how the jocks said break a leg in this one though.

Was Robot Jox ever MST3K'd?

It would be a great movie for the new MST3K if it hasnt been done.

Robot Jox is so much better than these Asylum "Bad on purpose" movies. Robot Jox they made a really strong attempt to make a good movie. They had really good stop motion and miniature guys working on it

For people like me who lived in the 80s, stop motion FX was what we were used to because there was not digital FX option, CGI was in its infancy in the 80s (The Last Starfighter)

I have a nostalgic appreciation for alllll those hours put in to stop animation by guys like Phil Tippet, the dragon from Dragonslayer, the AT-ATs from Empire Strikes Back, Robot Jox, Cain-bot from Robocop 2, and all the Harryhausen stuff.

I guess its tough for guys in the 20s to appreciate that stuff like me since they grew up in CG.

>they made a really strong attempt to make a good movie.
That's a lie.
VFX guys did their job, live action portion is garbage from head to toe/
Saw it as a kid in the 90's on VHS, it's a fun shitty movie saved only by the robots and the ending scene.

MST3K only did cheap ass public domain stuff, so no.

>During the script-writing process, science fiction author Joe Haldeman and director Stuart Gordon clashed on the vision of the film. Halderman wanted a dramatic, serious science fiction film. Gordon however wanted to liven it up and use stereotypes. In Haldeman's word's, "I would try to change the science into something reasonable; Stuart would change it back to Saturday-morning cartoon stuff. I tried to make believable, reasonable characters, and Stuart would insist on throwing in clichés and caricatures. It was especially annoying because it was a story about soldiers, and I was the only person around who'd ever been one." As they were saying their goodbyes to one another, Gorden pinpointed the problem. He said "Joe, our problem is that you're writing a movie for adults that children can enjoy, but I'm directing a movie for children that adults can enjoy!"

Personally, the premise is great, way better then Pacific Rim, and would love to see a serious reboot in Joe's original vison.

I've heard the novel is a lot closer to what Haldeman was trying for
