I show them 00 S1. Then I distract them and have the watch a UC ova. This worked with my friends, None of whom actually like anime.

I've been friends with them for about 8 years. I don't have any friends except for this group, so I spend my time on 4chan until we decide to watch an anime together.

They just don't want to watch mecha. I've tried to recommend them for our viewings, but there's always another one that they all think will be better than my recommendations

Honestly it's probably not worth it. I'd say half my friends even care for anime, maybe half of that will tolerate mecha, and half of that genuinely enjoy it. Assuming you're friends with them for reasons other than their hobbies, it's not really worth the effort.

All my friends who got into mecha approached me first, and I gave them recommendations. If you end up in a situation like that, I'd say start with the 0079 movies if they can tolerate the animation. Yes, it's dated, but it forms an important foundation for the rest of the franchise. If not, then 08th MS Team is the most obvious one to go with, or 0080 if they claim they're more "intellectual." If even that is too much for them, then I'd say get better friends because it's a lost cause. Otherwise I'd go with Unicorn. As dumb as it is to start with Unicorn, normalfags flock to it like crazy. Sawano OST+good animation is catnip for normalfags.
