I wasn't expecting anything, I'm 100% satisfied with the old anime. Original ooks in English soon, downloadable in Japanese now. Hope it's not gonna be like with the Rebuilds when some Eva fans decided the new anime eliminated all the fun they had previously.

It's not really a prequel though, Fujisaki is just starting from episode 4 of the original OVA, or rather the 3rd chapter of the first novel instead of starting with The Battle of Astarte. Yang's child story is the one that was covered in the Gaiden OVAs although that too was in the first novel volume.
