Yeah, totally agree. It gets brought up from time to time, but it really is disturbing how much of a disconnect there is between the ADR and the action scenes in the Neo-Saban seasons. You can look at other kid's franchise's film versions and even catch that they're using their newfound cinema liberties to drop the pretenses (like the Yu-Gi-Oh! movie from 4Kids even had the villain saying "It's time to DIE").

I think they want the Hunger Games demographic, at least age-wise, so there won't be too much goofy use of "destroy" I'd imagine. Which is weird because they say that word so often in Rangers.

Relevant in popular culture?
Well, the mighty morphin suits are very popular and its pretty much the first thing people sadly think about when seeing a bad suit in a scifi movie/show.

So in a way it's relevant, though the newer seasons arent as popular, but with the coming movie this may change a bit.


As for when it should have ended, I always say that the fact Power Rangers has nostalgiafags proves how stupid nostalgiafagging is. Usually the arguments saying the original "generation" is better are
1)that it tells a complete story, which MMPR does not since the heroes end up losing, so people who say it should have ended back then have no clue or really fucking hate the rangers themselves. To get the full story you have to watch till In Space's end so you pretty much NEED to accept that there can be other teams aside from MMPR.
2)That the original product is better because it's the one that invented the idea, which is stupid since the very conception of Power Rangers includes using previous ideas (sentai).

And that's not even taking into account that there are better seasons than Mighty Morphin, but my point is that being a nostalgiafag and liking Mighty Morphin arent compatible.

I forgot to add, another thing I like about PR is that it has every reason to be shit (the fact it's a toy commercial, the fact that the show semi-depends on a previous show so the amount of effort a producer/writer are willing to make is very important) and yet, when it actually tries it can be really good (which, of course, its not always the case as we experienced recently with neo-saban seasons).

It also has a surprisingly good continuty and canon, given the nature of the franchise. I mean, there are plotholes and such, but not even close as many other long running scifi franchises that take themselves more seriously have.

Like, we didn't get a Magiranger vs. Dekaranger adaptation, but the nod of Piggy in Mystic Force was pretty sweet.

For me, I want to see these shows for their own merits. I remember watching them but nothing about the shows themselves, and I want to see if they hold up. In the case of seasons like DinoThunder, Time Force, and RPM, especially Time Force, it exceeded my expectations. Seasons like that reminded me why I liked the franchise.

TMNT popularity comes and goes.
We had the Next Mutation/In Space crossover when both series were at a crossroads.
The Next Mutation got cancelled and TMNT was off the air for five years.

My 57-year-old neighbor is a HUGE fan of the Wonder Woman 70's series with Lynda Carter. Wonder Woman was a huge role model for 70's girls along with the Bionic Woman.

I view PR as something I enjoyed as a kid, but it really hasn't aged well. I feel it should've ended with RPM instead of having Neo-Saban around.

Except you need to have a fully-operational body to perform martial arts, so it would only mean something within the show and within the worlds of sports and dance, and if you don't do those things, it means nothing for you. It certainly means nothing for nearly every interest board on 4chan, since almost none of them require the full use of a human body, if any physical activity at all. If you wanted to have the moral actually make sense, he'd have to have some way to contribute other than fighting, and at that point it would be more effective to make him like Cam, except he's disqualified for non-emotional, entirely rational reasons, and have him gain and lose power within a single episode or multi-episode arc.
And I disagree with the central premise as far as it relates to Avatar: the idea that being disabled and wanting to be fully functional is wrong is absurd by any rational standard. This is a point that the most radical fundie and the most fedora'd atheist would agree on - it is better to be able to walk/see/hear than otherwise.

There's a difference between depicting a disabled character wanting to be fully functional and depicting a character who feels useless because of his disability.
Jake wasn't shown to feel useless because of his disability. As an identical twin of someone with an avatar, he had a role nobody else could fill. His desire to walk was exploited when crazy war dude tempted him with treatment for his "real legs" and he learned from that mistake after shit went down. He still wanted to be able bodied and eventually he felt more comfortable in his avatar body.
But in the end, it wasn't primarily having an able avatar body that led to Jake's victory. It was the leadership and tactical abilities he gained in the army. He wouldn't have won without rallying the Na'vi. In that way, there was still the message that disabled != useless. I don't think Power Rangers could explain the same message to its target audience of little kids in a way that the kids would understand that a disabled ranger deciding to permanently become a ranger doesn't mean they're useless as a crippled powerless human.

And look, most rangers give up their powers or have their powers destroyed at the end of the series. (Even Super Megaforce has Troy symbolically leave his sword) How does it not make sense for a disabled character to also give up their power? Before or after giving up or losing their power, they learn some bullshit lesson that they are more than just a ranger, and even without the power to fight monsters or walk, they can still make a difference.

Among the "really good" seasons my favourite is SPD and the problems would be

-Sam, though its arguable whether its a flaw or not since he's more a no-character than a bad character. He still got more focus episodes than Gia
-Grumm is very effective, though he has no charisma.
-Mora's story was interesting but never gets properly solved.

Not sure about Wild Force, but Zeo and Ninja Storm are also better than their counterparts. Though that's more because their counterparts are bland rather than Zeo and NS being particularly good. The only PR adapted sentai that I havent watched so far are Carranger and Gaoranger, though I'm pretty sure Carranger will be better than Turbo when I get around to it.

So I've been thinking of how I'd do Megaforce in a way that's more befitting to Ranger history and uses more callbacks. This is what I've come up with (I'll probably do it in story form so if it seems fan wanky or like it shoots for the moon that's cuz prose has more freedom than a show would)

- The Zangyack are a faction of the Machine Empire that survived the Z-Wave. Ackdos Gil is Archerina's once mentioned father, King Aradon. Walz Gil and Bladerun are brothers as in MF but are Aradon's nephews instead of his sons.
- Use machine MOTWs from Goseiger and more metallic/robot MOTWs from Gokaiger most often, any organic monsters are races enslaved by Aradon.
- Malkor and Insectoids are recurring villains desperate to counter the Machine Empire that show up for a single story arc and then die.
- The Gokaiger suits are the primary characters and renegades that aren't supposed to have their powers. Red Ranger has ties to a previous red and a legacy he's running away from.
- Their mentor is the reformed Divatox, explaining the pirate motif.
- Goseiger powers are a second more "legitimate" team chasing after them led by Adam (cuz he deserves to finally be fucking red Ranger god dammit). They come to accept the new team.
- SPD focus story deals with the "present day" SPD, not the ones from the future. Time traveling Sam shows up, however. Present day Doggie and Cat show up, possibly Skye's dad??? They're inspired by the "glimpse of the future" they see, which is explained by morphin grid fuckery
- Taylor probably would appear working with the Silver Guardians. Probably fucking Eric by now.
- I dunno who else I wanna show up again, but every pie in the sky fan wanky dream is on the table.

Jason gave his powers to Rocky who then got the ninja powers which are stronger so, if anything, it would have made more sense in-universe to have Rocky on the team. Even then, if they had the chance to have both Jason and Rocky, they could have done that in many ways, either have Jason with dragon shield, or Rocky with ninja suit, or movie suit rocky (just make up some bullshit like he came from the universe the movie happened in or is an upgrade he got offscreen) or metallic armor Rocky.

Apparantly at some point, we were going to Samurai toys based on the Mmpr cast. Since Bandai wanted to continue the toyline without a tv show.

I was thinking it might have been planned as a sequal to the original mmpr series, judging by how the headsculpts look on these prototypes.

But since we never got these, I'm not even sure what kind of story they would have had in mind for these.

I really want to go with the idea that these are cancelled MMPR2010 prototype heads stuck on Samurai bodies. I'd really rather not believe Bandai of America was that hard-up for ideas they'd consider rehashing the characters (again), even for an evergreen line. Yes, I'm aware of the irony.

Besides, I can't even imagine how that setup would work. Zordon whips out Samurai powers in place of the Thunderzords? If Tommy stays Green, who would be Gold? Zack? It's just weird.

Dude. They invented the phrase "wibbly wobbly timey wimey". They had a short where the Doctor specifically says time is always in flux and "everyone remembers a party they couldn't be at, just don't worry about it". Smith's run ends with them giving him an easy out from the 13 lives thing. They pretty much do what the heck they want and explain inconsistencies as "lol time's complicated".

Wolf and Rhino were dictated by Gekiranger.
In Gekiranger, the main three morphed with these gauntlet/bracer things that doubled as weapons. But Disney/whoever was in charge didn't want the morpher to be something as mundane as gloves or something as commonly violent as brass knuckles, so they made sunglasses.

Good thing it's not a karate motif then. It's a kung fu motif, and spear hand strikes are a common element of kung fu, which could imitate a rhino goring a target.

It's a karate motif. His suit is a stylized karate gi for crap's sake. He does karate chops. It's why he's called GekiChopper in Japan.

Though I will admit I screwed up by not saying they wanted to represent "traditional" karate, but still differentiate from GekiViolet's Muay Thai style.
