If there's one thing I can compliment Guren no Tsuki's art on, the use of lighting in a lot of the shots is really cool

They seem to be coming up with a lot of ways for Kageyama to not have to talk lately. He had a gag for most of HnK, he had the visor thing in Gold Storm, and now he's frozen all the time in GnT.

It's a play on the old Princess Kaguya story. Bamboo cutter finds a girl from the moon inside of a bamboo stalk, brings her home where she becomes a smokin hot princess that everyone wants to marry.

Except it's Garo, so the woodcutter is a greedy fuck who wants to use his princess to get sweet treasures, and turns into a horror.

And the fight was okay. Nothing great, but the best GnT has had so far and pretty close to most of the armored scenes from Season 1 of the Toku.

Well, the main problem with YamiTera wasn't that it used CG, but that all of its horrors were incredibly samey and boring, with exceptions like Sonshi. Goldstorm may have a lot of CG horrors, but they're all really cool and interesting designs

I don't think knights are THAT strong at all time, other than some exceptions (Garo and co.)
They are said to be able to deal with horrors even without armors, and I could imagine regular knights can deal with blank state horror(s) without too much problem. Once it gets to the demon beast horror levels that is a complete different story, and for those without plot armor probably go down pretty fast.
Knights with titles have at least 1 student to carry on their name, but it is not fast enough to balance out the deteriorating rate.
This is why they have camps training kids, lots of kids, to be their replacement.
So for the claims about Crow and Daigo being useless I say they are pretty much the regular bunch, while the blessed ones (Garo, Zero, and Dan) are just super saiyan in that fantasy world.

It can’t really compare to the first two series (except in terms of plot, where it well exceeds them), but it was still a great show. ‘Gold Storm’ has fewer problems but it also has fewer virtues; it’s less aggressively different from the Kōga era but in the process it loses a lot of its own identity and falls into the trap that ‘YoTM’ itself avoided entirely: being a watered down version of the original series. Ryūga and Rian ditching their old, more flawed personalities is particularly indicative of this problem.

It’s true that they sort of wrote themselves into that trap, but there were ways out of it. They could have had them slowly gain ground in repeated clashes against him like they did with Sonshi, and then if they wanted to reinvigorate the threat of Zinga they could have given him his own mid-season powerup, maybe using the sword that was such a big deal in the first half.

Ehhhh. I can't agree with this.

Goldstorm was "inoffensive", which is a problem in and of itself but I thought YamiTera was just bad. It was in such a rush to distance itself from the previous Garo shows that I feel it completely lost the spirit of the series. The Horrors lacked any sense of horror, the suits were replaced wholesale with ugly CG, Sonshi was the only person in the show who actually fought rather than flailing like a ninny, and the villains ended up being the more likable characters. It dispensed with the (in my eyes) far more interesting anthology of self-contained horror stories in favour of a tighter central narrative that I honestly couldn't care less about.

I mean, at the end of the day all Garo seasons end up having a core storyline but I would hazard a guess that people tend to remember most fondly the self-contained stories like the magic bullets, the swordsman, the horror movies. Those moments are when Garo is at its best for me, and the fact that YamiTera moved away from that killed it for me.

I do disagree with this. We all have our favourite standalones but I think most of us remember the main plots best. However standalones are still extremely important for giving us a sense of what the characters are like in their day to day duties, helping us get to know them giving context to whatever arcs they may experience over the course of the series. I agree that this was somewhat (though not completely) lost in ‘YoTM’, but if anything ‘Gold Storm’ was even worse in this regard — though since the former series inaugurated this trend, I can understand resenting it more.

Soul metal and the show mythos in general are magical enough that it would make sense for him to be combat effective without sight, and it would give the writers and designers an opportunity for a poignant reversal when he regains the shine on the rest of the Garo armour even as its eyes permanently cease to light up.

Directors play a very large part in deciding if side characters being jobbers or not.
Even if the writers have included parts for side characters the directors still holds the power to rule them out to make his "perfect fit" show.
In BB Yuna and Kain may not be nobodies in the plan, but since Kaneda likes to focus on a single character in his works parts for those 2 may have gone into the garbage bin in the final product.
German may have been something even worst than what we see now. It could be Hayashi adding more to stuff to him since he is the one who drew the storyboard.

The thing is he doesn't have a SWINGING DEATH AXE training room or a knight to train him like Kouga (His dad and Baron), Raiga (Zero), or even Leon (His dad). Ryuga trained with a dog for 10 years, so I don't know how he learned how to even use a sword properly.

If you are talented at martial arts, like a knight should probably be, and you fight a lot you will end up developing simple but effective moves even without a proper training. Ryuga has lots of natural talent, anyone denying that is an idiot. I don't understand why they don't let him grow of its "rookie" stage.

I'd put Crow above Daigo, mainly because when Crow got to fight he was generally pretty badass, it's just that the show felt the need to feed Raiga his kills maybe thats why their sexual tension is so high. I also think that Baron is probably better than Leo as a Knight, Leo was always an amazing priest, but his combat ability as a Knight left a fair bit to be desired

Daigo and Crow's position is pretty strange.
Daigo is from a time when Garo has been gone for a very long time. A time even the Horrors are looking down at knights. It's like they distrusted Garo, and his return.
Crow is more like a screenplay problem. He is looking down at Raiga maybe due to his age. This part has been cleared up in the comic version where Raiga looked so much younger than the rest of the gang. Most like the artist does that to stick with Amemiya's request.

Yeah but the makai knights did an aceptable job at containing the horrors for allowing most people to have normal lives, as normal as they could be on the garoverse. We as the audience know a Kouga's descendant wasn't good enough for the job. Amemiya should do a movie about it, it could be titled "The last Saejima" or something

Are the suits in The One Who Shines in Darkness ever suits? I'm 5 episodes in, and so far it's all been cgi, which is especially disappointing after Makai Senki was mostly suits.
