What does /m/ think of Grendizer (known as Goldorak in French dub)?

Never watched the show, manga is pretty good especially the Ishikawa chapter, Grendizer has a horrible design and it's disappointing to see Kouji pushed to the sidelines.

It's shit, totally weaker then Mazinkaiser too. It's no surprise it's never brought up or mentioned at all anymore when they have superior Mazinger like Shin and Mazinkaiser.
Thing couldn't even beat Great Mazinger in a fight after Great had been sitting in mothballs for like ever.

I shouldn't really give an opinion because I grew up with it, but IMO it's better than Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger

I've never really heard about those. I only heard about Goldorak (Grendizer) since it was a cutural thing in Quebec but I had never watched it before I bought the DVDs collection.

I think Grendizer needs a remake. We're getting the new manga, Grendizer Giga.... maybe that will be good.

I watched Mazinger first and I think Grendizer has a more adult tone and it could be bittersweet and even tragic many times.

Ironically, Kouji was a lot more likable on Grendizer. He was complete asshole on Toei Mazinger so it wasn't that hard

I saw the first episode back when Shin Getter Subs did it. It seemed pretty cool. I also liked the manga.

I'd like to see more. Maybe Discotek will bring it out if their Mazinger Z DVDs sell well enough?

I've only ever caught the Force Five version but it was enough to cement 'dizer as my favorite super robot.

it's the promo for the Grendizer Giga manga, which is a completely indipendent reboot

It was pretty awesome. The tail end of the series is one of the best runs 70s Toei had, stuff really came together and those episodes felt ahead of their time. Overall though I would put Getter G and original Mazinger above it though. Will buy if Discotek releases it.

I suspect Toei was planning to make a new arc. I remember Kouji and the rest were very entusiastic about the idea of traveling toward space and fight the Vegans on other planets but at the next episode Duke killed them all. Maybe the writers were plannin a new arc on diferent planets, what's closer to Nagai's original idea for Mazinger's 3rd season, but Toei thought it was enough. Then, 2 months later Star Wars would make space adventures cool again

Isn't it funny just how not knowledgeable the frogs are, concerning their own favourite cartoons?

The most hilarious part is seeing them getting BTFO by Grendizer Giga, which is pretty much the kind of remake (Which has nothing to do with Toei's canon) Nagai has been doing for 30 years to every single one of his major series (From the 80s all the way to present days).

It was already funny seeing spics getting BTFO by Shin Mazinger, even though the impact is less since they're at least aware of titles like Mazinkaiser.
