The fact that the framerate keeps up is quite an achievement in itself. The only catch is that the Bionis Left Shoulder map may be too much for the 3DS so no wonder why it was left out in this game. Not to mention that it would have required an investment in new enemies, voice actors and the like which all help to keep it out of reach.

The Bionis Left shoulder was never part of the game because it was built by monolith as a test area. And it would have make a much more natural progression as a mid point between the jungle and the sea. I picture it, had it made it into the game, as an area that you quickly pass at first (because you are in a hurry to bring Melia back to Alcamoth) but then becomes a source of very high-level quests to uncover the mystery of the Giant race. Not to mention that the area could have been the place for another Super-Boss.

I've been waiting for this game for so long, why does it feel like this final stretch is the longest?

Back at E3 2014, the game was announced, but Localization hadn't begun yet.
As of January 19, 2015, they released a tweet that said "Localization is making good progress", and it's still slotted for 2015, so there's an awesome chance we'll get it in November, which would also be the ideal time, as Nintendo needs to cover up for Zelda U's delay.

Frankly it is never a good idea to buy any console for one game. The smart thing to do is to wait until a console has a library of games you want to play on it. Wii U has games I want so I already have the console.

Best console to buy right now is PS3, free online and a massive library of games.
