As a great Kawamori Fan I still hold Nagano in the highest regard, L-Gaim and his Gundam designs are some of my top tier designs of all time, and I don't even dislike his Gothicmeido that much except for the retarded arm joints.

I love how Ebikawa's designs translate extremely well into toy or model-kit form.

Exia's design for example, is inherently double-jointed and does not have the traditional gundam skirt armor which hinders hip movement.

I wonder if he considers the toys when designing his stuff.

First thing I noticed about buying HG Exia was how well everything was articulated. At first I thought it was because of Bandai's gunpla technology, but what you said makes sense; that the design itself was very toy-friendly.

Well, most of his FMP designs have little to no front/side skirts either, so do the AGE designs.
Either that or he just likes the no-skirt aesthetic, either way he's a stellar designer.

What I *like* about Hasegawa is that no matter how whacky his designs are, he always goes into detail justifying the design in his supplementary materials. Zondo Gei, for example is his answer to making a De'an Gei that is able to maneuver effectively in Jupiter's gravity well, simply by reducing the mobile suit's mass to the bare minimum.

Maneuverability was the top priority due to the pirates' hit-and-run guerrilla tactics. On the other hand, the Jovians preferred for all-round units like the Batara or a sucide-units like the Pez Batara.

I'll give Katoku credit, at least he never went nuts like a lot of designers. His designs have always been pretty consistent, it's just personal taste if you like them.

What are all the tapes for?

I can't say he is worst but I find Masafumi Matsuura's stuff kinda gross. The Gundam Reon and Moon Crisis guy. Those color palettes are god awful and more vomit inducing than lime green and pink combined. He manage to fuck up the basic red, blue, and white and just place them in the absolute worst spots.

I dunno, perhaps I am really scraping the bottom of the barrel since he is probably amateur-tier at best for writing Gundam "fan fiction".

I appreciate Kawamori, but never really loved his design.

As for my favorites:
- Nagano before he lost his mind.
- Ebikawa.
- Makoto Kobayashi, but I understand his stuff is an acquired taste. Anorexia Bound Doc, elephantiasis legs. Shit is so weird and different I love it. And I think /m hate bio-shit, right?
- Kondo Kazuhisa. I am surprised no one mentioned him. I personally dig those Russian army/Naziesque skirt armor fashioned after long coat. Again, acquired taste I presume, since most people will scream NOT FUNCTIONAL. I don't care =P
