If the plot doesn't make sense to you then you clearly aren't paying attention. The designs are top notch and completely modern while still retaining the style of the original. I agree, on the other hand it didn't do particularly well commercially by the looks of things and never really captured the public imagination in the way it did back in the 70s. Certainly it never did gangbusters like we'd all wish. As such I think the original question about making it more relevant to modern times the OP posed has some merit.

Personally I'd say that it's true that some aspects of the Mazinger formula could be changed to make it more appealing to modern kids. Kouji for instance could be changed from the rather outspoken and brash guy we all know and love in to a more generic nerdy kid who grows in to that cool guy over the course of a show by starting to train to be a better pilot, gaining more confidence due to social exposure as it's pilot and contact with Sayaka etc.

You could even go as far as modeling Mazinger more after God Mazinger and have it be a power armor instead of a giant mech, with Sayaka becoming a magical girl instead of getting her own power armor.

Also, get Platinum games to make a Mazinger game please and thanks. Them or someone else high profile that'll get some brand recognition in the faces of younger people basically - Platinum would be my pick though, because I love their games.

Possibly, I'm only vaguely familiar with a lot of the more esoteric Mazinger entries. Or essentially, any of the ones that never got a translation like Z Mazinger and God Mazinger. It's a fairly varied franchise though from what I can tell, with Nagai trying a lot of different things across different entries so I shouldn't be surprised that a random suggestion is similar to something he's already done.

It's pretty simple to figure out what just happened. These retards had to actually read Shin ZERO. They just saw the nice rape namek art, and thought it might look cool in anime format. The reason they can't even explain why they think ZERO is good is because they don't know shit about it.

They're basically clawshrimpy tier.

How the fuck would ZERO even work in OVA format? The story is messy and there's not much of a conclusion other than the fight continues against the Mycenae in the sequel manga. You could argue that Minerva's personal drama in wanting this time loop to end could be the whole focus of it, but then, this series require you to know at least some of the main characters to actually give a fuck.

ZERO is the worst possible way to introduce people to Mazinger. This wouldn't be a revival, it would be a disaster.

Kind of? It's a mish mash of a dozen different Mazinger properties and iterations, so some basic familiarity with the franchise would help. Mazinkaiser was my intro series, that did the trick. Shin's the most plot heavy Mazinger Z show though, it kind of stands out in that regard.

I would recommend getting yourself familiar with the original manga first Then maybe watch Mazinkaiser/Mazinkaiser SKL.

Shin Mazinger has the good ideas and scene reproduction of the various mangas presented in a cohesive manner but it isn't anything like the toei anime or Mazinkaiser in terms of direction.

To put it simply,

Mazinkaiser/Mazinkaiser SKL if you want to see giant robot action
Shin Mazinger if you want to see the lore behind Mazinger

Which is why I personally recommend Imagawa's Shin Mazinger after Mazinkaiser just to see the contrast in the storytelling.

I would probably recommend starting with the manga or Mazinkaiser. Shin makes a decent enough entry point, but I think it's better enjoyed if you're familiar with at least the basic elements of the Mazinger story.

The first thing people look at is the characters, and your average anime fan will instantly disregard any show with 40 year old aesthetics. Instead, get a character designer that worked on a popular series from this generation, like Gundam 00 or Macross Frontier or something, to hook people's interest by visual association. Then throw away all shame and pander hard to both waifufags and fujos.

If you still have time and resources after that, try to add some robots.
