hey /m/

I'm in the mood for something like Giant Robo

is the 2003 Astro Boy series any good?
>>
Absolutely nothing to do with Giant Robo other than both being based on old properties, but yes
>>
>>11224853

I thought it would have a similar... vibe? Mad doctors, adventure, mechas, old school ass kicking. Plus I really like Pluto

would you recommend anything else?
>>
>>11224859
The newer Tetsujin 28 series, maybe? The immortal cop guy even shows up there, too.
>>
>>11224847
Astro Boy looks OK with that.
>>11224879
Obviously its Kenji in Immortal!Kenji's coat
>>
>>11224847
But only half of it is subbed.
>>
Better idea; how about trying out the Omega Factor game? Not only does it suit Astro Boy needs, it's even similar to an Imagawa work!
>>
>>11226185
Not the OP, but I tried it. I can't really get into a beat em up with one one-button attack combo for your entire melee repertoire.
>>
>>11226179

Well shit. What about the older series?
>>
>>11226210

They're not that good. The 60s barely had any animation and the 80s one was made for the western audience and it's pretty tame compared to the others.
>>
>>11226185
>it's even similar to an Imagawa work!

To be fair, that's also something Tezuka would sometimes do as well.

The man liked reusing particular character types in his work - nicknamed it his 'star system'
>>
>>11226210
Nix that...the whole 2003 series got subbed in the end. I have them all on DVD.
>>
Not sure this is the right thread, but, what is the best Cyborg 009 series?
>>
>>11228138
Eh, it's no big deal.

By general consensus, the 2001 version is the best, and closest to the manga in terms of adaption, putting aside a number of necessary changes (mainly the switch to modern day). Sticking with the dub is pretty much the only option, since most of the subs are HKs.

The second best is the 79 version helmed by Ryosuke Takahashi, though only 2/3rds of it got subs. Didn't make it to the Underground Empire arc, either.
>>
>>11228105
Shit, where? I need a link.
>>
>>11228282

I second this.

Also: is it *good*? I really feel like watching a good old fashioned ADVENTURE

it's between this and Hunter X Hunter, frankly
>>
>>11228138

The 2001 series. The first one is garbage for several reasons. The second requires prior knowledge to the characters and it's loosely based on the manga since it was still being published at the time.
>>
If you want to get into Astro Boy might want to try the comics.
The shows are usually decent adaptations, but I prefer the comics. Like Carl Barks' comics vs Ducktales. Ducktales isn't _bad_, but it can lack the oomph that the original comics had.
>>
>>11228105
>Nix that...the whole 2003 series got subbed in the end. I have them all on DVD.
I have it on DVD too, but it's not subbed. he series had a dub only release, and if I remember correctly, the dub fucks with the dialog and makes Atom come of as more hostile.
>>
>>11224847
An OVA series you might enjoy is KISHIN CORPS, which Giant Robo-TA's director did immediately before.

While it's amazing, I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for, anon. Each episode really just focuses on Atom's interaction with humans, learning about the social climate of human-robot relations, and daddy issues. There's plenty of action, but... still not sure if it's what you want. But make no mistake, it is beyond good.

Also the whole thing technically IS subbed, but the second half only has HK subs. It's still easy to tell what's going on, but it's a bummer they're so shit. Be grateful for those first 25 episodes, though. I watched the whole series with HK subs on Tudou before I even knew about the torrent.
>>
>>11226210
The 60s series is charming, but it's definitely got flaws. The 80s series has shit animation and voice acting, and many stories from the manga were altered to seem "newer". I personally can't stand it.
>>
Isn't Astroboy 2k3 the one where Blue Knight is more prominent?

Also the second opening rap intro

If I recall this was among the last anime that used cels and it had an incredibly high budget for a TV series. You can tell that the people behind it really gave it their all unlike some modern remakes like Sailor Moon Crystal.

it's actually pretty good

also the rap is the JP op
>>
>>11243871
It's called hip-hop.
>>
>>11243567
It wasn't that terrible. To be honest, it sounded like they hired a Will Smith tribute band though.

I was surprised myself at how beautiful it is. Shame most of the stories are pretty shit.

That fight was a bitch in the PS2 game when I was younger.

Ended up just spamming lasers, hoping they would actually hit. Never did beat Atlas.

Maybe I should actually give it another go someday. I do remember enjoying it a fair bit.

>Tetsuwan Atom and Cyborg 009 subs fucking never.
>>
>>11249076
What series? I thought the recent 009 had subs.
>>
>>11248899
Indeed.
>>
>>11249107

It has mostly innacurate dubtitles for the first half and Crabsticks for the second.
>>
>>11249150
Second half should also have dubtitles.
>>
>>11249154

Really? Where can I find it? It's not good, but better than nothing.
>>
>>11249154

Sauce?
>>
>>11249314
>>11250302
Wait sorry guys, I shouldn't run my mouth. Now that I think of it I think it's dub or hk sub or bust. I'll get off my ass and double-check one of these days.

Chemistry is R&B

>>11231815
I have those too, apparently some of the episodes are out of order throughout them also. I'm always on the fence of just getting rid of them but it was the first anime set I ever got as a kid.
