The monsters on Hikari Sentai Maskman are REALLY Henson-esque, so that may be the show your thinking of, as it aired in 1987. GUIS subbed the entire showif you want to check it out. Also, the villains on the Metal Hero shows up to the rescue trilogy are pretty bizarre and from the eighties. From the seventies, the monsters on the 13-episode show Shirojishi Kamen(White Lion Mask) are all based on Yokai, so if you like Kara-Kasa's hopping around with their tongues hanging out, check that one out also.

If any of you ever come across any episodes of ???? (Mesupai or Mespy) let me know. It's about a spy with super cyborg tits who fights monsters with them. And it's not JAV. Naoko Takeuchi actually was partially inspired by it for Sailor Moon. Somehow.

The Fushigi Comedy Series are pretty obscure. Everyone knows Poitrine now, but very few people know about Magical Chinese Girls Ipanema, PaiPai, and Great Ryugujo.

Nemurin is another really obscure one, I think made to ride the Gremlins wave of popularity.

I loved this show. There's a full series torrent...with absolutely no seeds, so it'll be difficult to find downloads of it. A lot of these more obscure shows do get full uploads, but in a world of torrents, they tend to die very fast.

One day I would love to see more of the Fushigi Comedy shows. There's a point in where the franchise becomes live action magical girl shows and the only one I've managed to see in full is the one used in Wizard.

I think that was around the time that they made Ultraman vs Kamen Rider, so Toei and Tsubaraya were probably on good enough terms that they would be okay with Ultraman appearing in an episode of ShuShuTorian. Or, Toei could have just changed a suit enough to look like Ultraman, but be just different enough to avoid getting sued. For anyone interested, the clip we are discussing is this one:

I have seen episodes of all of them except Chukana Ipanema and Utau DaiRyuguujou, and definitely the best of them are Bishoujo Kamen Poitrine and Yugenjikko San-Shimai Shushutorian. The rest are okay, but as a guy I just couldn't get into them as much as Shushutorian and Poitrine. In a way, Kakuranger is considered a quasi-sequel to Shushutorian, as one of the three sisters(Satomi Hirose) played Tsuruhime on Kakuranger, and the other two sisters make guest appearances later on in Kakuranger, which started airing just four months after Shushutorian ended.

Wrote it myself. I'm probably the biggest toku geek on this site, as I've seen about 80% of the shows on that list. That's a slightly old version though, since I switched over to a spreadsheet recently, so there might be a few missing here and there. The list ignores a lot of the Toei Fushigi Comedy series, which is something I've fixed in more recent versions. Thankfully other people have mentioned it in this thread.

Remember, most Godzilla fans hate the 1970s. Even though there were Zone episodes directed by Ishiro Honda, they don't consider it "true" Godzilla.

I'm not surprised Zone's never gotten a domestic release for it's Godzilla content.
The stuff with Godzilla isn't terrible when you handicap it's under tv budget restrictions with recycled suits that had seen better days by that point, but that's a long way to handicap Godzilla footage.
