By this I mean something, that is aesthetically superior to smart phone designs but has faded out of existence and popularity due to lacking the tech.
Or if you have a better analogy feel free to go for it.

Dunbine. Bilbine is cool, but its design is nothing compared to Dunbine.
Transforming mechs seem to have been on the decline for a while

Flip Phones faded because it looks like a toy.
>>10929746
Flip phones faded because of touch screens - they were redundant once touch screens became standard.
Because mechanical mostly follow rule of cool, instead of real logic. I don't believe there is a true analogue. I guess cell based animation, but people will disagree.
>>10929608
I loved the Razr V3. I would still be using it if I didn't accidentally put it through the wash...and dryer a couple of years ago.
Every other flip-phone has just felt cheap (fuck touchphones)
>>10929746
>Flip Phones faded because it looks like a toy.
that just made my statement more relevant then, how odd.
But honestly, I would rather take a touch screen flip phone(or any new take on the flip phone) over the bricks that we use now. Smartphones have a ton of capabilities that are really cool and usefull, but I still prefer buttons for stuff like texting and the ability to close my phone.
That being said, does anyone have anything to say about japanese flip phones? Those always struck me as being really cool with a lot of functions(compared to what was available in the US)

forgot pic
>>10929780
I'd choose a flip phone simply because they look more durable.
>>10929780
Smartphone bricks are really good at taking advantage of the ThinkPad aesthetic, just saying.
Sometimes all you need is a jet black slab with sharp edges.
>>10929608
I don't grasp the premise of this thread.
>>10929791
This. ThinkPads are sexy.
Bulk, heft and weight. Now, I know we have a few throwbacks here and there, but most modern mecha need to eat a damn sandwich.
>>10930107
That looks really ugly to me. It's just really utilitarian and basic looking, like it has literally no style.
>>10930130
>not liking utilitarian
>>10929786
thats because you are a fucking idiot. the more moving parts, the more likely it is to break. thats why those Nokia bricks outlasted most Razr flip phones and a modern smartphone will endure much more everyday wear and tear (just dont run it over with a truck).
>>10930140
I had a flip phone for 10 years without any problems before I got rid of my cell phone completely. Got smashed around and nothing happened.

Wrong Tetsujin
>>10930123
>>10930163

>>10929783

How about this one?
>>10931025
Aquarion.
>>10930123
What did you think of Buddy Complex's rediculuos leg binders/knee spikes?
>>10931047
A thing of beauty.
They make clamshell smartphones in Asia. Some of them are really high end.
>>10930123
That's a not very appealing pic of fx you got there
>>10932301
i live in China and all these fucks use anymore are smartphones.
>>10931047
Needs a V-fin.
>>10935663
This is a smartphone.
>>10935710
If the screen on the front is touch and the flip screen is normal I want that phone right now.
>>10930123
They gave Tetsujin FX a gun? Even though the characters in the show make a huge deal about not arming Tetsujin with weapons?
It's almost like they didn't care about the artistic credibility of the source material.
>>10936283
That's the remocon in the form of a gun.
i have this one :3
The new phones transformed things.
>>10929764
>I guess cell based animation, but people will disagree.
Because that is completely wrong
Cell based animation
>superior quality
>more expensive
In other words cell animation is actually analogous to smart phones, but since smart phones are not dead the analogy therefore doesn't really work.
>>10929608
To this fucking day. There has not been a single phone that has matched the sleak and sexy nature of this phones aesthetic. The day I dropped this phone for a smart phone was the day I learned what regret was.
>>10938671
I've seen many keyboard layouts for phones before, but this is the most confusing. I understand it folds out to be a keyboard but that means you can only use it when you put it on the floor/table. Seems like way more of a hassle
>smart phone mecha designs
look at these Boring and genericness
>>10941914
You are dumb, it has an extra phone keyboard on the outside. And I'm pretty sure the folded out keyboard has a locking mechanism to be used in hand.
