Since the last Doraemon thread went over so well...
>Learn about Doraemon
>Read the Doraemon manga
>Watch recent Doraemon episodes, english subbed
>Disney XD to air Doraemon anime in the Summer
>>Read the Doraemon manga
Except there isn't much demand for it. The 2005 anime is going to have an (butchered) english dub soon, but there are some decent subs on the link OP posted.
The 1979 anime only has crabsticks, but I found some good subs for some of the movies a while ago, don't remember where though.
OKAY, MOVING RIGHT ALONG.
Why is she the best girl?
Well, in China he's called ??, which is basically "Fat Tiger".
In the Philippines, in Tagalog is "Damulag", literally "big person" or "big kid".
In Korea it's ??? (tung tung ee) which means the chubby one in Korean.
Not much of a difference.
...this keeps happening but you know you can create a doraemon thread without a general right?
What is wrong with a normal thread. Why does everything have to be a general. Do you want /m/ to have more generals then it already has?
I'm reading the Dorabase manga (a baseball spinoff of Doraemon set in the 22nd Century, drawn by an understudy of the late Fujioka).
It's wonderfully racist.
At the moment I just read the volume where they play against a Brazilian team before they enter an international tournament.
The ace robot cat of the team (complete with niggerlips) is called "Ronaemon" and he has a pair of sibling robot cats on his team called "Robiemon and Roroemon" who are compulsive cheaters and dive (yes, in baseball) and "con" the biased referee into giving red cards (because fuck baseball, this is Brazil).
Kuroemon (the main character) calls shit on this and gets given a yellow card for it.
Brazilian players are so obsessed with soccer that they don't play baseball with bats (That or apparently they can't afford baseball bats and / or catching mitts) and pitch and bat by simply booting the baseball, because once again fuck baseball rules this is Brazil.
Apart from the 3 Brazilian robot cats on the team, there's a jungle nigger.. yeah.. literally just a jungle nigger with ??? as a face who doesn't wear shoes and just goes around oogaboogaing.
I seriously hope Japan never changes because this shit is hilarious,
When I heard that Doraemon is getting a US dub, I was surprised that it took this long. I grew up watching the anime every Sunday morning and reading the manga, and for the longest time I assumed everyone everywhere watched Doraemon as a kid.
If you haven't done so already, read Nobita's Adventures, which are the longer stories. Those were really fun to read as a kid. My favourites were the toy animal planet story, the undersea adventure and that one where Nobita switches places with an Aztec prince.
It took this long because Doraemon is EXTREMELY Japanese, and American companies don't like that.
It's only going to work now because it has tons of 4Kids-tier edits to mask its Japanese origins.
HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE HUE
>Position 4 MF "Monblan"
The other two robot cats Robi and Roro don't join until later on and when they do it's because they insist on making it an 11 man team game just like Soccer.
Because fuck baseball this is Brazil.
Oh yeah, in one of the adventure stories (I think it was the toy planet thing) Nobita falls into a chasm, and somehow meets an entity who claims to have spread the seeds of life to many planets and satellites, but only a select few planets managed to harbor life. Yep, your clumsy, whiny, book-dumb fourth-grader met a godlike entity.
Also, I think it's awesome how Nobita's a total crack shot. He
killed a spacefaring assassin in a gun duel.
I liked this movie, even if the Zandacross didn't do much. guess I'll try the remake/sequel of this, which is also subbed (by Yojigen)
context: Nobita's dad seeing the house fly by the golf course while Nobita is at the window complimenting him on his nice shot, due to the use of a house-sized version of the Bamboo Copter
English-language board here.
Those have been officially renamed to McDorbles, we have to stick with it.
He doesn't "oogabooga" as such but he also doesn't say anything, he just runs around without shoes with that look on his face making weird gestures like he's doing some kindof a jungle dance.
Oh right he also does a header on a really fast pitch, causing the Doras to look in shock at "Dear god did he just use his head?"
He then suffers a concussion and goes unconscious before he's able to run to first base.
The manga is obscure enough that from my knowledge only two porn images on pixiv; one badly drawn and the other one just completely laughable of the Dorabase series has been drawn.
And I hope it stays that way but you know internet, Japan, shit always goes coocoo.
And none of them of the Brazil team.
I'm pretty sure Doraemon probably has more porn pics.
Just actively did an R-18 search of Dorabase on Pixiv.
Turns up 3 porn images, 2 badly drawn by the same person. and 3 extra porn images of the characters as nubile young men, or in most cases, lesbian lolitas.
And yes there seems to be rule 63 of the Brazil cat on the far left as an oversized tittied lactating loli.
Well it's not TOO bad I guess.
I guess the manga artist started deviating his drawing style from regular Doraemon style to begin with after he hit some kindof character limit.
Originally they all well... they all looked like Doraemon with ears and varying different shades.
Problem came when they all kinda looked the same and it was hard to distinguish between them all. His artstyle then took a sharp swerve towards what looks more like shota fur stuff, and from what I've seen he's gotten away with it.
It gets to the point, around Volume 13 where it's obvious that none of the fans even gave a shit about the human characters (The supporting main character, Hiroshi (Nobita clone), whom Kuroemon lives with) succeeds in tryin his ass off and being invited (at Shiroemon's recommendation) to participate in an International Baseball Tournament to represent Japan in a team consisting of almost entirely robot cats (and Shiroemon's two background teammates Hirai (Gian clone) and Komatsugawa (Suneo clone) - human characters fans also didn't give a fuck about) before almost immediately getting into an accident and being put on a bus to sit out all of the international tournament arc.
In fact it becomes a plot point that Gian clone Hirai can't keep up with Shiroemon's skill level causes them to lose the tournament to America.
And don't even get me started on how little Mika (Shizuka clone) provides to the story despite being the manager of the Edogawa Doras team.
She's just there.
I read the manga, but never see the anime.
One of my favorites.
Basically, the train bring the kids to a space amusement park, consist of several planets. Each planets has its own theme : wild west, ninja, fairytales, etc.
Yup, if this whole thing ensures I can walk into a non-specialized store and see to my delight/buy a buttload of Doraemon merch, then it is A-OK. Though there are a couple of plushies I'm looking at.
In the grim darkness of the far future, it was conceived as a response to all of the diving in the FIFA World Cup, and to LeBron James flopping in the NBA. Robots are not programmed to flop or dive. It is illogical.
>Robots are not programmed to flop or dive. It is illogical.
Boy have I got news for you
There's one character who's owner treats him like a robot slave, and it becomes a sociopath who cheats his way to the top.
But because kid's manga, you beat them you befriend them and a good majority of them just because nobodies with no further character development.
He's too lazy for any of that adventuring stuff. According to one of the manga stories, Nobita's actually pretty intelligent, but got lazy and eventually gets behind in studies. As he grows up he gets better, though, and while the manga is rarely consistent in depicting future Nobita, he did land a good job, married Shizuka and has one or two kids.
>As he grows up he gets better, though, and while the manga is rarely consistent in depicting future Nobita, he did land a good job, married Shizuka and has one or two kids.
At the beginning, Doraemon stated that Nobita will marry Gian's Sister instead if nothing is done about his fate; that and cause a debt that would last for centuries, which is why he's here in the first place. Also, Time travel does alter the Time-space continuum, so it's obvious that his Future was never consistent.

Is the echo in the audio an issue with the HK bootlegging process or is it there in the legit media too?
I've never watched the old show without HK bootlegs somewhere in the food chain.
Young Nobita - WTF are you talking about srsly I don't get why older me is so whiny
Adult Nobita - I am so insignificant, I have seen so much and I cannot compare or make my own footprint in history
Old Nobita - Bitch please stop pissing and moaning and just enjoy life as it is
Doramone - Hi
I just started rereading the Long Adventures English scanslations recently.
It's hella rockin to be able to understand stories that I could only barely grasp when I read them in Chinese and Malay as a kid all those years ago.
That diving piece of shit, it's just like the US v. Ghana game four years ago.
> DORAEMON? WHAT'S THAT, SON? THE NEW POKEYMON?! YOU HAVE ENOUGH OF THOSE
It's Brazillian, It plays soccer; the first thing Brazillian scientists probably thought when programming a robot cat that could play sports for our entertainment was how to dive and fake injury.
"But sir robots can't feel pain!"
"We'll program that in too"
"And they'll be shotafurs"
In an earlier episode, Doraemon said that he was chosen as representative of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, that he would make a giant Dorayaki. True to real life, and not to his expectations, it happened, and after being stopped by the gang from doing a cop out and just making a small Dorayaki large via the Big Light, they instead invited all of 'Class F' to help.
There was a musical interlude introducing the rest of them, which was pretty cute. I had only recognized the Perman guys (top left), Esper Mami (school outfit, near top center), and Kiteretsu and gang (near center right) before.
As an aside, the whole 'representative of the 2020 Olympics' thing explains the new worldwide push by the Japanese companies to air/dub Doraemon in countries it never aired in before for wider recognizability when the time comes (such as the US of course, but also other places like Turkey and Poland) and the 2005 anime finally airing for the first time in some countries that have previously received the older show (like Italy, and France).
Indonesian translation rendered it as Emoll.
That hitman thing, not sure what it's called in English. I think the Edogawa Doras used it once, but filled it with so much money in desperation, it couldn't even stand. It made good on the payment and prevented a homerun afterwards, though.
Doraemon anime and manga are filled with reaction faces
Just recently watch every Doraemon Movies, and it almost got my tears alright. Even the special episodes (grandprix, etc) were so much fun.
So this has become a thing that exists...
If you ask me, Gonsuke should have been the head.
Episode where Shizuka becomes a magical girl in the style of the classical 60s-80s shows where they were about helping people/solving problems. Look for the ep in the filename of the image in this batch:
Heh, the second half of that same episode was funny for that, though in this case it was Nobita and Doraemon's fault for not completely listening.
Holy shit I didn't even realise Doraemon had an audience outside of Asia. This shit was my goddamn childhood
and probably gave me my macrophilia.
I've only read the manga (have a semi-full collection of it on the bookshelves), is it still going?
This is probably the reason why you can't find anything on Google about it.
Fuck, Doraemon only got a passing mention, yet they actually show more of Clamboy, sounds like a Canadian show (they have a quanity over quality law on their programming) because who the hell would watch this?!
Doraemon's gonna get swiftly canned and replaced by another shitty kidcom isn't it?
It's Boyster, not Clamboy
They didn't even bother to Fucking. Preview. Doraemon!
OH but the shitty kidcom and rebooted 7 Dwarves gets focus,
This is how they treat one of the most Iconic series of Japan, by making sure it won't have a chance?!
If that happens, I hope the company that owns Doraemon would be so furious that they never let Disney touch it again, and then give it to a company that will treat it with respect
Yeah, he sounds like he could be a brother to Yam Roll.
Friggin' Canada is the font of all things wrong with cartoons. I blame NFB for encouraging drunken Canadians to try animating even though they can neither stay on model nor even draw straight lines. Log Driver's Waltz is some QUALITY I tell you.
Little bit of sarcasm.
That's Modern Canada TV for you.
Up until around 2008, around the same time YTV killed Bionix, a lot of the original kid/teen shows were actually entertaining. I don't know if I would call them good though.
I grew up with Zixx so I might be a little biased.
and anime as well, Pokemon and that Beyraiders show with no real villain are stuck on early mornings,
Beyblade ended up getting replaced on weekday mornings by Johnny FUCKING Test
Yeah, I would also wager to think the audience/reach would be far larger than ecksdee, for one.
There's also the thing with Fujiko F. Fujio being dead for almost 2 decades now...
Does this make you all feel good now?
I will devour your souls.
Well, it's Disney.
It's not like CN, where all potential shows get cancelled left and right.
Green Lantern ;_;
So, I put cautious trust in them.
And because I want to see Doraemon alongside Mickey in Disney World
That would certainly be a historical moment, but then again, it's wishful thinking.
I am positively sure.
>little to no advertising
>opening will immediately turn everyone who isn't a bored babysitter off
>it's an anime that isn't a catch'em all or shonenshit
>not a tween comedy
>nice things aren't allowed on Disney XD
It'll be lucky if it manages to go all 26 episodes with no reruns.
I'm hoping it lasts a lot longer than that,
it's pretty much got very popular in just about every place who's native tounge isn't english it seems
That's Izzy's Va right?
Maybe you're right.
If this shit were bought in America earlier on, it could have been easily marketable.
Fucking America with their "MUH STRONG IDEALS. NO WEAK CHARACTERS ALLOWED" shitck. you've cost us a great series in favor of Hannah Montana bullshit.
To be honest the only decent non-syndicated shows disney xd has is Slug Terra and Max Steel, nerd corps action shows still tend to be at least entertaining
and I don't get the kidcoms, they all go like this
>LA LA LOLO BAD JOKE/TOILET HUMOR :D
Bump due to >>10955765
XD is airing it every weekday as opposed to just one a week, so at least they're giving this a fair shake.
>gadget cat of the future
I've got some of those bilingual Doraemon and they used the same phrase in that.
I bet these batshit edits are all Japanese execs deciding what Americans need.
And Doraemon sounds like Mint Berry Crunch.
Dorkly, it's not possible for the Japanese to make mistakes or be out of touch with the rest of the world. Disney is clearly trying to whitewash Doraemon for American audiences. They're just using a little more brown than usual.
I have to admit my only exposure to Doraemon was Iizuka's brutal painting of Shinpei Nogami.
Fuck man, even Indonesian adaptation are superior, hell, any other Doraemon dub outside this one is superior
Nope, still a vague "July".
This just makes me fear if Doraemon catches on in the US it will be the new hedgehog/pony OC factor for DeviantArt
Beyond the NES game, this is mine.
yeah, I know they fucked it up
Something lost on us English speakers?
OK, now this sounds real good. Also that tagline is pretty clever.
>That Suneo gasp
Okay, Disney, you've outdone yourselves
I hope they get the movies as well.
Found the VA list of the Main characters the first paranthesis are their dub names
Doraemon is voiced by Mona Marshall (Izzy from Digimon, and the protagionst of B-Daman Crossfire)
Nobita (Noby) is voiced by Johnny Young Bosch (Ichigo from Bleach, Almaz from Disgaea 3)
Shizuka (Sue) is voiced by Cassandra Lee (Edea from Bravely Default, Kyubey from Madoka Magica)
Gian (Big G) is voiced by Kaiji Tang (Hagakura from Dangan Ronpa)
Sueno (Sneech is voiced) by Brian Beacock (Takato from Digimon Tamers, Agumon from Digimon Savers, and Monokuma from Dangan Ronpa)
thoughts on the cast?
The second half of this episode had me dying. What's with Japs and
surströmming? I had never even heard of it until VICE dared that one Japanese comedian dude (Megwin) to eat it (along with other things) and puked like all hell.
Wow. All things considered, this actually is not all that bad. Nobita and Doraemon sound about as close as you could imagine in another language... Sueno even has his signature gasp. Great work, Disney.
Forgot the name, but it's somekind of drill machine where you can put a blueprint in it, then they use the drill to make an underground base from the blueprint, and later Nobita use a missile with different effects (sneezing, etc) at Suneo or Giant.
I seen it in the manga but forgot which volume since most of my Doraemon manga are lost.
I actually think they did a pretty good job with the voices so far. At least I was expecting worse. Then again this is Disney, the probably have the cash to afford better VAs like with Ghibli films.
Sure hope so. Whoever does that will be considered my god for the time being in case I miss one.
Also as said earlier, it airs every weekday, so missing an ep isn't necessarily the end of the world.
No idea about anything other than the first half of the first ep. I don't even know the sub equivalents of the rest of those half eps, nor if they are subbed at all.
This (>>11024998), kids are definitely up during that time. Also I don't know how it works on other cable services but the HD versions of the non-HD marked channels come up anyway when switching to them on TWC.
>No idea about anything other than the first half of the first ep.
it was a joke as a shitload of the show is
"Hey Nobita, there's a gadget from the future over there. Don't fuck with it."
"lol Doraemon left I'm gonna fuck with it."
Doraemon is my favorite Faustian robotic drug pusher from the future. Seriously, he's always offering Nobita miracle cures with huge ironic side effect punishments.
I think he's not from the future at all, but from hell, there to punish Nobita for his wickedness.
The first half of the episode (Nobita meeting Doraemon, how/why he came from the future) was basically the same as the equivalent Japanese ep, except in that version it was framed as a flashback, and took up the whole episode.
The dub version, however, cut everything indicating it was a flashback, and other things for time to fit in 10-15 minutes.
- when Nobita lost the badminton match against Gian, his face was painted green instead of black because Yeah.
- Nobita's grandson explaining that he will always end up being born that way no matter who Nobita ends up marrying, likening it to whether one can take a plane, boat, car, or train from Tokyo to Osaka was also cut (that of course being too Japanese for the vibe they're setting.)
It worked good enough, though, and the second half battleship warfare thing was also funny/entertaining.
>"It's dorayaki, but we call them Yummy Buns."
Yeah, I liked that they acknowledged that. It even says so on Viz's official site.
So if I wanted to check out Doraemon where would be a good option to start? I only see movies on Bakabt, no series - but there's like two dozen of them to choose from. Any particularly good ones?
original serious in glorious crabstick
also is anybody dumping the dub online?
http://yojigen.co/ has shit loads of the 2005 series subbed, most in batches, and as long as you know the characters you can basically start anywhere. Don't know about movies though, the only one I've seen is the older version of Nobita and the Steel Troops, the mecha themed one, which was okay.
A rip just got uploaded:
Yeah I liked what I heard of it. I had it set to record but my TV has been having some problems which also effects the recordings.
Me too. I think the gadgets are pretty cool and hope the kids do too. It'd be nice to have something popular here besides pokemon yugioh and beyblade.
so I was looking on sadpanda for Doraemon stuff hoping I'd find some horrible crap from devart
I was not disappointed
creepy fetished-up version of the werewolf one
So, Nobita was buck arse naked, Cops had guns. Yeah, for as bad as the production company was saying this was going to be this isn't too bad at the end of the day.
Plus Mona Marshell is Doraemon as far as I'm concerned. Can't think of a bad voice she's done.
Ok, so there's one edit. To be honest, I can totally see why they'd do this one.
Did the person finished the whole thing? Best I could find was 30 pages scanned, ending at the exact page you have.
I was trying very hard to not get a whyboner from the emphasis on the breasts and lady bits as they transformed.
>The Japanese actually put in the blatant American-izations such as setting it in America, changing the names, and this shit
>YFW they are actually subtly trolling the shit out of Americans this way
Bravo Japan, what great human beans
Just pray Disney XD doesn't try to axe it quickly just because they want another animated comedy or mediocre live action kidcom on instead
Watched a bit of one before Doraemon
>A show about a superhero hospital
>a normal Girl makes a speach about how normals are important as well
>Judge of contest more or less says "hurr normals couldn't make that kind of speach so this other dipshit wins"
>>The Japanese actually put in the blatant American-izations such as setting it in Ame
i don't think the japanese studio was responsible for the changes, rather disney localizing it.
Hidetoshi Dekisugi (Ace Goody)
yep that's Shinji Ikari's va voicing him, and apparently according to TV tropes he's basically to show how much of a loser Nobita is
which is hilarious, since he Spike Spencer also voiced Shinji as mentioned above
Holy fuck, I thought I had watched every Doraemon episode in existence, but apparently I must have only watched the first 600 episodes of the 1979 series, at most.
There are so many more, holy shit...
I watched Dangan Ronpa today and I can never watch Doraemon again without thinking of them murdering each other. upupupupupupupu...
Yeah it looked nice. Sasuga american commercials. Saying this as an american. It's been a long time since I've heard an ending theme outside of an on demand channel cable wise.
Doraemon isn't funny enough? Although I admit my favorite part is seeing the different gadgets. Was interesting seeing how the memory bread episode was different from it's older counterpart.
I've been enjoying watching both the older original one and the new dubbed one. Kinda liked how the new one added digital notes and such.
There's actually compilations of the amount of times Shizuka appears naked in Doraemon. You won't find much in the 2005 remake due to censors getting more strict with nudity for children's anime in modern times.
Those long stories/movies usually show their actual friendship and how much of a bro they can be. But generally they just enjoy bullying Nobita because he is a complete loser sometime.
