This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

I feel a bit ashamed to ask you this, but are there any English translation of these images? I know /m/ is not a fan of Gundam SEED in the slightest, but these are very interesting on their own as military science fiction, regardless of being tied up to the fucking Cosmic Era.

Usually, when I have some Japanese text I want to know the gist of, I usually run it through Optical Character Recognition and Google Translate. It's way less than perfect, but it does the job of at least getting the idea. But this shit is handwritten: OCR flops miserably, especially with CJK text.

I found translations/summaries of a couple of them, but in Chinese. Nothing in English.

So, I'm uploading the finished Star Wars thing this/next week to Youtube (music is just being finalised). And it may get a fair few views, but really people will only be watching it because it's Star Wars and may well praise it despite the numerous flaws just because "wow, anime Tie fighters."

So I've been thinking for a while of doing something of my own, not based on any existing property. Obviously this wonn't be for a while, as I have to get all the ideas and designs and things in place, but I do have a bunch of people (voice actors, a very good 3D modeller, very good SFX guy, top notch music guy , an inbetweener, etc) and via Kickstarter or whatever it's quite possible that I could animate a 30-45 minute one-off mecha OVA with all the little details and 5 tone shading and (when necessary) over the top gore that just isn't feasible in commercial anime anymore, but is totally doable if it's not being made with profit or toy sales in mind.

Obviously I'd develop it using /m/ as a crtitique/test base so you can keep me in check and make sure I don't so anything too stupid like laughing Heeros and forced memes.

So anyway! Currently I have the following in mind:

>Steel Battalion/Armored Core-style "realistic" mech setting (no Gundam SEED-style "press this button to defeat all enemies with magic laser spam.")

>A 4-person team dropshipped down to a colony planet to take out the air defences around a pirate/rebel fortress to allow ground troops to land and take the facility intact/maybe rescue hostages?
So a squad of 4 mechs will have to land on space Vietnam some distance from the fortress to avoid radar and walk to the target. Lots of in-cockpit chatter/cockpit porn between the 4 pilots along the way (I'll need to design 4 memorable and not cliched characters).

>It's very LOGH-style tactics/strategy based, so at key points will cut to a narrator or possible future historian explaining via some maps why going across the river or sticking to the shore was the best move, why they were keeping certain units at the back of the formation, etc. We can only see what the 4 guys in the mechs see, so these bits would be our only chance to see enemy movements, gun emplacements and the like that are out of their field of view.

>4 mechs, each basically the same frame but adjusted for specific role, VF-1-style. So the squad arrives at the planet via a carrier, is dropshipped down to the surface, and then deploys with 2 assault mechs (big cannon and rocket launchers), 1 Rear guard/Anti-Air support (Itano circus mech which also lays down defensive smokescreens and has repair stuff and replacement parts onboard) and a lightly armored intelligence support unit with a radome which connects intel to the carrier in orbit/provides satellite views and mapping as well as jamming enemy radar to allow for a stealthy approach.
The pilots can get out and scout ahead on foot and the like. Maybe even some situations like a tree branch has got caught in one of the mech's joints and they have to work it free, or other "realistic' things we don't usually see in anime.)

Attached above is what I've come up with for the basic mech frame (it's the assault version. For the intel one, think no weapons and a lot of the armor removed, and for the anti-air version just think missile pods everywhere). So...

Does it look shit?
Does it look like a 100% Metal Gear ripoff?
Obviously I need to get the design looking good, then I can get a rough 3D model made and rigged for some animation tests.
So really, this thing would feel like a tank sim, I guess. In terms of "heaviness" I'd like the machines to walk with purpose, like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOC-fs9JHEo

Also, because there are no bosses and no rules for the project, I can kill everyone. I can have enemy and friendly pilots being graphically shot to shreads in the cockpit by minigun fire if we like. Or moral choices like, they come across a civilian camp and may have to mow them all down to prevent any spies radioing ahead and compromising the mission. Who knows?
Throw ideas at me if you like. I shall gladly steal them!

In short, how would *you* make a 30-40 minute
OVA about slow moving mechs interesting?
Obviously I'll be watching some tank documentaries for reasearch and intend to show every single control and button in the cockpits being used and what they specifically do.
Just because.
An exposed, detachable reactor looks like a backstab waiting to happen.

Story and Events:
Nanoha serves as the backbone of the plot. TSAB is dealing with problems in various dimensions and recruits the magical girls that they run into.
Handsome dude from Utena hits on everyone.
Cure Sunny(?) meets Nanoha, Hibikia and other mech-inspired heroines.
Cutie Honey meshes well with Happiness Charge Precure because of costume gimmick.
Sailor Moon saves the day all the time.
The noise is somehow connected to Evolutionary Invasion Objects.
Fancy Lala masters musical fighting with the help of Symphogear
Chibi Usa befriends Vivio
Tuxedo Mask references Amuro, has Rose Bits.
Tuxedo Mask contrasts with Sailor Moon. She introduces herself, he doesn't
Ami is broken-tier support. Bubble spray has a debuff.
Nanoha is a Gundam.
Tuxedo Mask synchronizes well with Nanoha (combo attack) where they don't need to talk to do the combo attack. Double entendres about being in her. Some character mishears for hilarity:
>Wow, how are they able to fight together so well despite them being complete strangers
>Tuxedo Mask looks like he knew exactly what Nanoha-san is gonna do, it's like he's inside her and can hear her thoughts or something
>Another character misheard that
>What? He's inside her?

Escalayer has power up by hand holding. You can either choose to make her hand hold exclusively Kyohei or let other characters hold her hand to power her up. When she loses, the enemy grabs her hand and she automatically powers up. There's a locked room with what's clearly sex noises coming out. One of the younger magical girls asks what's happening. An older girl tells her that they're holding hands inside.
Macross girls (and all of Fire Bomber) sing in battle alongside the Symphogear cast. Ranka has a magical girl uniform. Also Minmay, Sheryl, and Ranka can use holosuits for transformation sequences.
Vividred Operations has game original Vivid forms for any pair of girls. Akane's little sister also gets vivid powers, pink in her case:
Canon Vivids: Vividblue, Vividgreen, Vividyellow, Vividred.
Original Vivids: Red+Pink, Blue+Green, Blue+Yellow, Blue+Black, Blue+Pink, Green+Yellow, Green+Black, Green+Pink, Yellow+Black, Yellow+Pink, Black+Pink and finally, all 6 combined. Someone think of names for these vivids (or ask >>>/u/ they might have already done it.)
Dimensional Quakes from Date-A-Live jumpstart Fate/Hollow Ataraxia plot and those result in multidimensional shenanigans like in SRW Z.

One enemy faction wants to destroy magic.
One enemy faction wants to destroy technology.
Original villains are collaborating with canon villains to make them stronger.
Some of the magical girls end up fighting each other. In some cases it's because of misunderstanding (Original heroine has a similar power signature to the powered up villains) and in other cases its because the magical girls were captured and brainwashed by some villains.
IS and Vivids are powered by the same technology. Manifestation Engines are their reactors.
The Belka from Nanoha and ancient humans from Symphogear are the same thing.
Incubators (Madoka) are active in multiple realities and using different enemy factions to get despair.
Second division from Symphogear is for the TSAB what MiB is for aliens.
Neuroids and Alone were created by the same ancient civilization, Neuroids to destroy magic civilizations and Alone to judge science ones.
The Holy Grial from Fate/ was created as a connection to Sora no Otoshimono Monolith so are the wishes from megucas.
The people from the Synapse and the Custos are one and the same and maybe the creators of Neuroids and Alones.

What's the best cockpit you've ever seen for a mecha?

I don't care if you're talking about "Practically Best" or "Aesthetically Best", I just want to get a feel for what kind of cockpits there are out there.

>Pic Related: Not very practical (and doesn't have consistent logic) but god do I love the look of it all.

Asimov wrote a lot of fiction about mechs.

Cordwrainer Smith wrote a short story about three super robots attacking a planet of furries. It even has a harem ending.
He also wrote a very sad story about a future nazi killer robot - with a harem ending and one about how a Kamen Rider got a job and got married.
Full Metal Panic is a pretty good series

What are some good mecha video games? I'm currently playing Hawken and it's all right but I'm not much into the online battle arena/fps fad that's been happening the last few years (and doesn't look like it's going to slow down)

I'm open for most anything (even online fps/oba games yes) that's out or is coming out but games with a story or some customization would be nice (not a ton)

OF the

trust me don't question just get it
I should rephrase that last sentence, when I said not a ton I should have added is not necessary. If a game has a ton of customization I can still enjoy it (I used to play the shit out of armored core but stopped at 3 for some reason and never got around to picking it back up)
strike vector
maaaybe colossal kaiku combat
gundam breakers
that x game for wiiu
and airmech. that's all I got

By this I mean something, that is aesthetically superior to smart phone designs but has faded out of existence and popularity due to lacking the tech.

Transforming mechs seem to have been on the decline for a while
Flip Phones faded because it looks like a toy.

NASA warp ship.jpg

In 2010, NASA physicist Harold White revealed that he and a team were working on a design for a faster-than-light ship. Now he's collaborated with an artist to create a new, more realistic design of what such a ship might actually look like.

More pics: https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/sets/72157644113972600/

It's just concept art, but it seems like they're having a pretty good idea of what a warp ship would look like, and they're planning experiments, too. Interesting times we live in, indeed.

It seems like the only important part is the two rings, the inside could look like anything.

Yep, it's fucking nothing.
