Without Europe there would probably be no Christianity left thanks to the moslem hordes.

Great book.
Anyway, no. Christianity improved by mixing with pagan europe and vice versa.

Christianity was a Europe for a mistake.

Europe is the Catholic Church.

His subsequent two are actually much better, but the 4th part is considering the author lackluster.

I don't know about that, I preferred after virtue to Who justice.
Maybe it's because After virtue was what convinced me that virtue ethics is the way to go (and that had very significant repercussions on what I believe, especially in politics, and how I act).
Never read the third one though.
>>
>>9995791
After Virtue is to me a less polished, less extreme version of what Whose Justice and Rival Versions explore, they are more detailed, expanded After Virtues that take criticisms into account. I prefer the 2nd and 3rd books largely because they helped me in my development as a thomist as I was already close to virtue ethics before reading MacIntyre.
>>
>>9995823
Uh, a thomist, typical.
The day I'll meet another virute ethicist who is an atheist is the day I'll die.

Dude, she's dead

There must be a couple of people on campuses who like her.

>have to pick between paganism and Christianity like a football game
You idiot, it's precisely the complex synthesis of ancient philosophy and Christian doctrine, with supressed undercurrents of gnosticism, which makes the Western tradition so great. One of these ingredients taken alone is insufficient and lonely. The Western art has always been to dialectically integrate worthwhile belief systems into a coherent whole.

This is a great book OP. You've got good taste, Alasdair is up there amongst the best contemporary philosophers IMO (although I feel like he fails to justify his refutations of Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, and stoicism)
>>
>>9996518
In my reading of him, which is quite extensive, I am lead to believe he doesn't consider those to be particularly important right now, especially in his later works (with the exception of Nietzsche, who is important for Focault). Socialism, capitalism and utilitarian and kantian ethics are more common targets.
