Holy shit was it hard to not get distracted by all the porn & video games I could be engaged in. but now. I think I finally like to read for legit (and not just pretend I read to impress people.)

Agreed, OP! And also, nice frog!
OP here, I'm actually surprised it was so hard for me to get into reading.
I think it's because I was forcing myself to try to read what other people suggested, when I didn't have an initial interest in the hobby.
But what I did this time was search up a book that had the qualities I am personally interested in, and because the lore/genre/etc were all my favorite things, I felt more invested in the book and was immersed from the start.
Maybe I just have different taste, but reading a book just because it has a good ratings wasn't the best way for me to get into the hobby.
I started to get into web novels first because they were doing genre's I was into (chinese web novel about MMO's, then gradually into a light novel, and now I'm just genuinely interested in fantasy stories.)
I actually spent the past 5 hours reading. I had a lot of bad first-impressions with tons of books that prevented me from getting past the first chapter. I just think it was a streak of bad books or something.

Yeah that's the way to go about it. If you've never read before, most of the stuff posted on here will be too dull and heavy for you. I know it still is for me.
What book was it Op
Same here OP. Got back into it at the age of 26. Read a bunch before I finished high school but it was mostly literature at the Harry Potter level. Once I started college I just quit because I was sick and tired of reading all day just for my classes. Now that I'm reading again, I find myself enjoying the classics greatly.
Good job OP
