Is it possible to write without some form of mental anguish? I just can't seem to write without my mental deformities acting up. Depression and Anxiety motivate me better than being content with life. Being drunk helps too.
Clarity inspires creativity just as well as an altered mind, it just requires having more to say.

Not that I have anything to say.

I think to write something good you'll have to have experienced something disturbing, at least witnessed.
Yes I do think depression and anxiety might boost the creativity level, but too much depression might cripple you. For example Sylvia Plath did lots of work, studied etc. before she first got depressed and attempted suicide in college. Some time just before she did it, she became completely non-functional. She stopped studying or reading anything except scandal sheets and abnormal psychology books.
Yeah, but it's gonna be shit. Check out your local bookstores best-sellers list, a bunch of uninspired, boring, stupid garbage.
Are you me

This. Or at least follow pic's advice; "Write drunk, edit sober." Actually do both sober.

IMO good writing is equal parts torment and isolation. Shake vigorously.
