Foundation and Earth by Isaac Asimov.

The only sci-fi book even remotely close to literature and the closest to serious literary themes. Almost everything else is a bunch of boyish space fantasies.

Stranger in a Strange Land is one of the worst sci-fi books ever. It starts out good enough but Heinlein finished the book just to finish it. There was no ending, just pages with words that came after the first few chapters.
