Is this good or just presumptuous?
So miserably depressing I gave up on it. Also, nothing happened.

People seem to overlook this one because they're too fixated on Catch 22, but I found it riveting ... it's basically existential in nature (and the narrator has uncomfortable feelings towards his daughter)In the end, something definitely happens

I loved it. The prose gets really intense when he starts narrating the family dynamics and I like how Bob continues to circle back to just a few events in his life that were more meaningful to him in retrospect. I can see how some people might find it tiring but reading him rail on about the girl at his first office job for 50 pages was actually riveting
I can't help but feel Heller is a one trick pony after this. Granted, i've only read this and Catch 22, but my prognosis is that Heller was so flattered at how much people liked his dry and cynically absurd recollection of military service that he just did the same thing again with a different subject.
I'll probably read some of his other books at some point. after all, they've all got very attractive covers.
This book is pretty boring, and the bastard just goes on and on about some girl he wanted to fuck but never did.

That's life my man
Catch 22 was my favorite book all through high school.
I didn't really like "Something Happened," but I think "Good as Gold" and "God Knows" are both pretty good if you can get past the whole (((jews))) mindset. I've re-read both of those several times.
>tfw my local library's sole copy is ten years overdue
Picked my copy up for a dollar at goodwill. Great book imo.

For what it's worth I enjoyed it a lot
