Im trying to help my boyfriend get into reading novels and I think this is a genre he'd enjoy. More adventurous plots, not so much lovey-dovey please.

Are you talking literature or pulpy exciting/sci fi/ fantasy shit? He could always read game of thrones or Clive cussler or Steven king

Literature, he's not interested in King or anything sci-fi that I've offered him
murakami, super accessible and comfortable and can lead one to authors like kafka or proust
The best way to get into reading novels is reading novellas. Try having him read: Of Mice and Men, Old Man and The Sea, Heart of a Dog, or Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Vonnegut is a good starting point. Borges isn't novels but there's some adventure and nothing lovey. Heller for a war novel. Lots of novitiates like Steinbeck (east of Eden).
More than all the rest though I'd say cormac McCarthy. The road, no country, and all the pretty horses are all super accessible.
