Mann is so fucking boring. Just read faust (again if you have already).
There are some good aspects though. His commentary on music for example

I liked the chapter about Beethoven, I stopped reading at the chapter about religion. Felt like reading a scientific essay rather than a novel. I don't think it's bad, but it's a really hard read. Maybe I'm up to it in a few years. (I read it in German btw)
