What books should I read to become a pseudo intellectual? Do I need to read the whole book or can I just read a synopsis?

Being a pseud is more than a choice in books, it's a lifestyle. Being an enormous pseud myself, I will point you in the right direction.
When you shop for books, always buy from Barnes and Noble booksellers, as they are the most reliable source of hip literature. Never buy books used, and especially don't buy mass market paperbacks. You're reading for the look. Next, you're going to want to buy books with provocative titles written by well-known authors. When you want to get into more advanced levels of pseudery, you'll want to get into pretending to read literature. Get yourself a copy of any book off of the /lit/ recommended "door stopper" books, open it up smack into the middle, and flip the page every now and then. Bonus points for staring into the page intently. Look up from your book every few minutes and pretend to contemplate what you've just read.
Congratulations, you've learned everything you need to be a genuine pseudo intellectual.

Remember especially to obsess over book covers, binding, and paper quality. Ideally get everything in synthetic leather but claim it's real leather for the true pseud experience.

imho the fastest way for become a pseudo is skip the source.
Example:
Want to know Aristotle? Start with reading his fucking books, not only read books of people that have read them.
If you do only that, you're no better than those who watch other people playing on youtube.

Don't read books.
Being a pseud is all about superficial understanding, so don't read any books, lest you gain actual understanding. What you want to do is post here for a year or so. You'll pick up a bunch of names and get an idea of what's good to like and what's bad to like, and you'll be a pseud before you know it, leaning on a wall at a party talking to a girl going, "Yeah, but it's really more Pynchon-lite."

How does LoTR makes you a pseud exactly?

I believe the picture was unrelated and is just a basic starting kit.
