If you like dark fantasy stuff then you'll like it. If you are not usually into genre fic/fantasy but want to try it, there are better books to try.

I've read the First Law Trilogy, The Black Company first three books, Locke Lamora`s first two, but this one holds its merits just fine;

The Broken Empire books are not very long either way, so trying it out for yourself is not that big a commitment anyway;
