any reason you didn't start bringing a notebook with you the first time this happened?

I do but even so it is impractical when biking long distances, especially when you get that euphoric cycling high tunnel vision but at the same time there is nothing better for literary inspiration than having the sun on the face while experiencing this cycling high.
