a book where the characters symbolize different websites... all play a role in the story. am i high or does this sound like a great idea or both or neither?

it's not that great.

Better - a novel where normal characters are underlined by their similarities to different websites.
E.g. a regular college drama, but assigning different websites to characters give them differentiating characteristics.
Pros are that no one thinks it's a dumb idea, you have varied characters, and basically the same story as with outright "X guy is Y site"
Websites come and go, good writing needs an anchor to reality.
