Who was in the wrong here?

Reminder the protesters were actually hardcore Maoists.
>>9924040
confirmed for not knowing shit about the protests

Im gonna go ahead and say this was an occasion where governments and shadow organizations do whatever the fuck they want, except this time it wasn't kept under wraps. That's what they fear the most anyway. Huge publicity.
Most of the protestors just wanted a day out of school. I've talked to several participants who ended up being professors at my campus.
The protesters were peaceful right up until the point where the soldiers got the order to march. Its quite obvious this was an attempt to crush a peaceful resistance. Its only remembered because it got out. It took place in that odd time where technology had outpaced the government and they couldn't suppress the news.

>At the same time, the party's nominally socialist ideology faced a legitimacy crisis as it gradually adopted capitalist practices.[31] Private enterprise gave rise to profiteers who took advantage of lax regulations, and who often flaunted their wealth in front of the 'have-nots' of society.[23] Popular discontent was brewing over unfair wealth distribution. Greed, not skill, appeared to be the most crucial factor of success. There was widespread public disillusionment over the country's future. People wanted change, yet the power to define 'the correct path' continued to rest solely in the hands of the unelected government.[31]
Many of them were fighting against liberalization of the economy not for more liberalization of it.

Ah, so now its totally okay that the soldiers ran them down with tanks, I see.
>>9924065
The opposite. That's why I'm saying it wasn't okay.
>>9924073
I'm more of a "its not okay either way you spin it" kind of guy, but I'll take it.
>>9924030
>student peacefully protesting
>soldier follows orders to kill them for not dispersing
>some soldiers refuse orders and don't kill anyone
gee I wonder
>>9924030
As a big government, its pretty much an obligation to squash dissidents while painting yourselves the heroes
As usual it was the darn commies' fault again!
Henry Kissinger's fault obviously desu.

Its not just "commies". Don't give the people responsible some vague label and leave it at that. There were specific persons responsible for giving the orders. Blood on their hands.
