Is it worth reading?
Guys?
Yep
I'd recommend if it's the 10th/20th/etc science fiction book you've read. It's middling in it's literary merit, but important in the history of science fiction. If you read it too early you won't appreciate its magnitude, and if you read it too late all of its charms will have been filtered out by superior later works.

I love science fiction films, is Dune worth reading in that case?

this should really be in the sticky.

>God Emperor. Widely considered almost as good as Dune (and many would say even better, making it the true masterpiece of the series)
So, which one do you prefer?
>>9923707
Not him, but I think Dune is a better book overall; that said, in the context of the series, God Emperor is absolutely the high point.

i thought dune 2 was the best out of them all. i liked the 2 after god emperor. if you enjoy them might as well read all 6. although the last one ends on quite the cliffhanger.
Read Dune and if you like it, read Messiah. They are essentially one story. The quality drops off from there but is still enjoyable if you're already a fan. Dune is very beautifully written though and none of the other five books come close to being as poetic.

Why does God Emperor get such a huge response from people? Does it get really abstract and philosophical?
>>9923577
Yes, read it last month for first time and really enjoyed it
>>9923903
Faufreluc-tier taste anon. Messiah is the best in the series.

i prefer this one. purely for the courtroom drama at the end, where the protagonist hurls a spear through one of the judges.
